MASSACHUSETTS PIRATES (6-6) @ JACKSONVILLE SHARKS (2-8)
Spread: -8.5 (MASS)
O/U: 82
mL: -340 (MASS)
Kicking off Week 15, the Massachusetts Pirates take on the Jacksonville Sharks in the first game of a loaded Saturday slate. Sitting in third place in the Eastern Conference, the remaining schedule for Massachusetts has potential playoff implications. For Jacksonville, their playoff hopes are still alive, requiring a near-perfect final push. The Pirates come into this game favored by eight-and-a-half points, as oddsmakers expect Massachusetts to break their current three-game losing streak with a win Saturday evening.
With Alejandro Bennifield back in the lineup following missed games due to an injury, the Pirates were one point away from avoiding their first losing streak of the season. However, a last-second touchdown put the Gunslingers ahead with too little time for Massachusetts. This week, the Pirates face off against another lenient defensive unit, as the Jacksonville Sharks allow over 50 points per game on average. Offensively, the Pirates have struggled recently, averaging 35 points per game, ranking last in the league. However, while the Pirates' offense looks for more wind in their sails, Massachusetts sports the top defensive unit in the league, holding teams to just 168.5 yards and 33.3 points per game, ranking first in both categories.
The Jacksonville Sharks enter this week with the weekly goal of keeping their playoff hopes alive. Though they're last in the Eastern Conference currently, they're not mathematically eliminated. Facing off against another Eastern Conference team looking to compete in the 2024 IFL Playoffs, this game is crucial for the Sharks. They enter the week averaging 35.5 points per game, coming in slightly higher than their opponents. However, on defense, they aren't as stout. The Sharks' defense allows an average of 50.9 points per game, only trailing the San Antonio Gunslingers (53.1) as the most-scored-on defense in the league. The Sharks have an uphill climb to claim a postseason spot, but a win against Massachusetts this week improves those odds.
The over-under for this game comes in as the lowest line at 82 points. The last time these teams met, the total reached 47 points, but the combined total of both teams' averages equals 70.5 points. To reach the over, both sides must come up with more points than they do on average.
TULSA OILERS (4-8) @ IOWA BARNSTORMERS (4-7)
Spread: -1 (TUL)
O/U: 85.5
mL: -110 (TUL & IA)
Continuing Saturday's full slate, the Tulsa Oilers and Iowa Barnstormers battle it out, with both teams knocking on the door of playoff contention. With only four teams from the Eastern Conference making it, both of these teams are on the outside of the bubble. With both teams stacking up so similarly on paper, this game is almost a pick'em, favoring the Tulsa Oilers slightly.
Coming into this week after breaking their six-game losing streak, the Oilers face an opponent with similar playoff aspirations. A win for Tulsa boosts their likelihood of contending in the playoffs. The Oilers average 40.5 points per game, ranking them in the bottom half of the league in scoring. On defense, Tulsa is ranked considerably higher, allowing just 42.9 points per game on average.
The Barnstormers enter Week 15 following a narrow victory against the team they're hoping to pass in the Eastern Conference standings. If the season ended last week, Quad City would be getting the final spot in the Eastern Conference, leaving Iowa just behind in the fifth spot. However, the Barnstormers have won two games in a row as they're making their final push to make the playoffs this season. Offensively, the Barnstormers average 39.2 points, making them one of the lower-scoring units. On defense, Iowa hovers near the middle of the pack, allowing 44.3 points per game on average.
Oddsmakers set the over-under line for this game at 85.5 points. Having played each other before, these teams combined for 70 points in Week Four. However, combining both teams' offensive averages comes to 79.7 points. To reach the over this week, both sides must score a bit more than their season average.
GREEN BAY BLIZZARD (10-2) @ QUAD CITY STEAMWHEELERS (4-5)
Spread: -11 (GB)
O/U: 90.5
mL: N/A
After securing the first playoff spot this season, the Green Bay Blizzard face off against the Quad City Steamwheelers, who would take the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference if the playoffs began last week. However, with five games remaining, including Week 15, both teams still have much to play for. The Blizzard are favored this week by 11 points, holding a 2-0 series lead over Quad City this season with the potential of a series sweep on Saturday.
Following their win last week against the Sharks, Green Bay clinched their first playoff berth since 2019. With their ticket to the playoffs punched, home-field advantage is the new goal in sight. Through 11 games, the Blizzard have scored an average of 47.6 points, nearly ranking within the top five. Defensively, the Blizzard has one of the top units in the league, allowing just 34.3 points per game on average. Their defense is also tied for first in sacks, totaling 18 sacks through 11 games.
After dropping their last game to Iowa by one point, an upset victory for the Steamwheelers would be massive for their playoff chances. Coming into this game, Quad City averages 44.8 points per game, ranking them among the middle-of-the-league statistically. Defensively, this team is one of the most-scored on, allowing 48.5 points per game, only trailing San Antonio (53.1) and Jacksonville (50.9).
After two matchups this season, these teams combined for an average of 78 points. However, the season average of both teams comes out to 92.4 points. Oddsmakers set the over-under line at 90.5 points, making the over achievable if both sides can score their season average.
BAY AREA PANTHERS (9-2) @ DUKE CITY GLADIATORS (1-10)
Spread: -14 (BAY)
O/U: 89.5
mL: N/A
Kicking off the first Western Conference battle of the week, the Bay Area Panthers look to get closer to clinching their spot in the 2024 IFL Playoffs against Duke City. The Gladiators head into this week with a new coach, looking to hand Bay Area their second upset loss in a row. Bay Area is favored by 14 points, coming in as the largest spread of the week.
After dropping a thriller to San Diego last week, the Panthers look to stay on top of the Western Conference with a victory on Saturday. Bay Area comes into this week sporting an offense that averages 46.4 points per game, hovering near the middle of the league statistically. However, the defensive unit for the Panthers ranks in the top three, holding opponents to just 37.7 points per game on average. Against a Duke City team with a brand new coaching staff, the Panthers must adapt as this will be the first time they take on the Kelly Locklin-led Duke City Gladiators.
Facing a 1-10 record through the first 14 weeks of the season, the Gladiators made a change to their coaching staff, letting go of Fred Griggs and bringing in Kelly Locklin. While they have a new coaching staff heading into this week, Duke City has struggled on both sides of the ball, averaging 37.1 points per game and allowing 45.1 points per game. Facing off against the top team in the Western Conference, the Gladiators look to play spoiler, upsetting Bay Area on Saturday evening.
Oddsmakers set the over-under line for this matchup at 89.5 points, as both teams combine for an average of 83.5 points this season. With Duke City under a new coaching staff, this is a tough one to estimate.
SIOUX FALLS STORM (3-8) @ FRISCO FIGHTERS (9-3)
Spread: -11.5 (FRI)
O/U: 91.5
mL: N/A
Wrapping up the evening slate on Saturday, the Sioux Falls Storm take on the Frisco Fighters in a matchup with significant playoff implications. Frisco looks to be the second team in the Eastern Conference to clinch a playoff berth, while the Storm looks to keep playoff hopes alive with an upset. Frisco is favored by 11.5 points this week.
Having made the playoffs in their first three seasons, this week holds a high level of significance for Frisco's playoff future. If Frisco wins and Iowa loses, the Fighters clinch a playoff spot at worst. However, if Frisco wins and the Pirates and Barnstormers lose, the Fighters can ensure they start the playoffs in their home arena. Heading into this game, Frisco is among the highest-scoring offenses in the league, averaging just under 50 points per game, allowing the fourth-lowest total to opponents with an average of 42.4 points.
The Storm have shown the ability to upset teams that rank higher than them, as they recently took down the Vegas Knight Hawks in an overtime upset win. However, with three wins so far this season, their final playoff push will require both wins from the Storm and help from other Eastern Conference opponents. With an offense ranking 10th in the league in scoring, their work is cut out for them against Frisco. Defensively, the Storm sport the fourth-most scored-on unit in the league, facing off against the former league MVP, TJ Edwards, and a high-scoring Frisco offense.
The line for this matchup is set at 91.5 points, and with both teams combining for 91.8 points on average, the oddsmakers expect both teams will reach their season average.
ARIZONA RATTLERS (8-4) @ VEGAS KNIGHT HAWKS (8-3)
Spread: -4.5 (VEG)
O/U: 98.5
mL: -192 (VEG)
In the first game of the night slate on Saturday, the Arizona Rattlers and Vegas Knight Hawks face off in a Western Conference battle. No one has clinched a playoff spot in the Western Conference, and with Vegas currently holding second and Arizona sitting at third, this matchup holds a lot of weight in how the conference will end up. Six of the eight teams in this conference have more than six wins, making for a contentious final month of regular season action. In this matchup, Vegas is favored slightly with a spread of four-and-a-half points.
After breaking a three-game losing streak last week, the Knight Hawks remain in the second spot of the Western Conference. Dethroning San Antonio, Vegas sports the highest-scoring offense in the league, averaging 52.5 points per game. Defensively, the Knight Hawks are ranked in the middle of the league, as they allow an average of 43.9 points per game.
The Arizona Rattlers have been one of the hottest teams recently, losing just once since April 20. The Rattlers started this season poorly, losing three games in a row following their victorious Week One. Since then, they're 7-1 as they look to continue climbing up the Western Conference with an upset over Vegas. Offensively, the Rattlers rank similarly to the Knight Hawks, scoring an average of 49.5 points per game. However, their defense isn't as stout, as that unit allows 46.8 points per game on average.
The oddsmakers set the over-under line at 98.5 points this week, coming in as one of the highest over-under lines of the week. Both teams score an average of 102 points per game, making this line achievable.
SAN DIEGO STRIKE FORCE (7-5) @ TUCSON SUGAR SKULLS (2-9)
Spread: -11.5 (SD)
O/U: 83.5
mL: N/A
Putting a pin in the Saturday night action, the San Diego Strike Force matchup against the Tucson Sugar Skulls. With how contentious the Western Conference is, winning this matchup is crucial for the Strike Force. Though Tucson is eliminated from playoff contention, the Sugar Skulls still look to finish the season strong as they look to spoil San Diego's playoff hopes. Oddsmakers favor San Diego in this matchup by 11.5 points.
Coming into this game in fifth place within the Western Conference, the Strike Force's playoff hopes ride highly on the outcome of this game. The Strike Force ranks as a top-five offense in the league, scoring 48.3 points on average, while their defense surrenders an average of 43.3 points per game.
The Sugar Skulls have been mathematically eliminated from the 2024 IFL Playoffs, but Tucson will remain competitive this season. With the possibility of taking down a team that's looking to make a run for the playoffs, the Sugar Skulls have the chance to hurt San Diego's chances significantly with a win on Saturday night.
This battle's over-under line was set at 83.5 points, coming in as the second-lowest total of the week. When combining the average of both teams, that total comes to 83.6 points, making this over-under line achievable for both sides, as long as they contribute their season average.
SAN ANTONIO GUNSLINGERS (6-5) @ NORTHERN ARIZONA WRANGLERS (7-4)
Spread: -6.5 (NAZ)
O/U: 102
mL: -258 (NAZ)
Wrapping up Week 15 in the sole matchup on Sunday, the San Antonio Gunslingers face off against the Northern Arizona Wranglers in a matchup between two playoff hopefuls. Northern Arizona currently holds the fourth and final spot in the West, while the Gunslingers trail the final playoff position by two spots. While both teams remain firmly in the hunt for playoff contention, the Wranglers look to further their lead, favored by six-and-a-half points.
If the playoffs began this week, Northern Arizona would hold the fourth spot in the West with just one more win than San Antonio. Scoring 47.5 points per game, the Wranglers sport an offense less explosive than their opponent, but their defense is ranked with higher regard. Through 11 games, Northern Arizona allows an average of 45.4 points per game.
Led by the best passer in the league, Sam Castronova, San Antonio is one of the top offensive teams in the IFL. The Gunslingers average 51.4 points per game, but their defense allows nearly the same, surrendering a league-high 53.1 points on average. To ensure they make an appearance in the 2024 IFL Playoffs, the Gunslingers look to upset Northern Arizona, making the Western Conference even wilder with nearly a month remaining in the regular season.
The oddsmakers set the over-under line for this matchup at 102 points, coming in as the highest line of the week. With two strong offensive units facing off, these teams combine for 98.9 points on average. With possible playoff positions on the line, an extra boost from both teams could cause this game to reach the over.
All eight games of Week 15 can be streamed from the IFL YouTube Channel or Caffeine TV. Action for this week can be found on all legal betting platforms where legal gambling is permitted. Please bet responsibly.
