Arizona Rattlers News Release
GLENDALE, Ariz. - In a high-stakes showdown, the Arizona Rattlers outlasted the Northern Arizona Wranglers, propelling them closer to a prime playoff position.
The Rattlers knew what was at stake against the Wranglers. A win would move them into third place in the Western Conference and one game outside of home-field advantage. Dalton Sneed and Corey Reed Jr. showed up in the first half. Reed ended with 100 yards and three touchdowns, which could have been more if their touchdown wasn't reversed on the opening drive. The Rattlers would get their first touchdown of the night when Sneed found a trailing Reed Jr. and opened the scoring for Arizona. Northern Arizona answered back on the next drive with a 50-yard touchdown pass to Arsiah McCorker. Sneed found Reed Jr. and rushed it into the endzone, giving Arizona the lead back. Starting where they left off in the first quarter, the Rattlers ran an option play to Shannon Brooks, who muscled his way into the endzone, giving the Rattlers a 21-13 lead.
It was a solid defensive performance late in the second half. Dillion Winfrey intercepted a pass in the endzone, leading to Brooks's second touchdown. Sneed and Reed Jr. ended the half the way they began with another touchdown. Arizona headed into the locker room with a 35-20 lead.
Needing to mount a comeback in the second half, Joshua Jones scrambled out of the pocket for a Northern Arizona touchdown. Knowing what was at stake, Brooks raced into the endzone for a 15-yard touchdown and extended the Rattlers 42-28 lead. Kobay White dived into the endzone for the Wranglers, cutting into the deficit. It was the Sneed and Reed show in the first half, in the second half it was the Brooks show who scored his second touchdown. Northern Arizona would make it interesting in the final stages, but too much to overcome. The Arizona Rattlers beat the Northern Arizona Wrangles 56-49.
The Arizona Rattlers will head back on the road next Saturday, when they travel to Las Vegas, NV, to play against the Vegas Knight Hawks.
