IFL Announces VidSwap.com Players of the Week

July 15, 2009 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release

Richmond, VA: After over three months of play the inaugural Indoor Football League season has come to an end. We have seen two expansion franchises win division titles, plenty of games come down to last second plays, and many individual performances that have re-written indoor football record books. The three players selected this week for the final regular season Player of the Week honors have each demonstrated on-field excellence while helping their teams to the IFL "Second Season". Fans can visit GoIFL.com to see the video highlights that made these young men the VidSwap.com Players of the Week.

WEEK EIGHTEEN OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK -QB JAMES McNEAR/OMAHA BEEF

After this weekends slate of games, IFL fans may be re-evaluating their thoughts that the Billings Outlaws championship run will be a cake walk. That is because the Omaha Beef took down the Pacific Division Champions for the second time this season, which are the Outlaws only two losses of the year. And the reason in both those games was the stellar play of Quarterback James McNear. In both games, Billings has been unable to solve his dual threat ability. In their 48-45 win, McNear was able to escape the strong Outlaw pass rush and took off 11 times for 58 yards and a touchdown. Through the air, he finished the evening 12 of 21 for 149 yards and five more touchdowns. With the win, the Beef solidified a first round bye and home field advantage through the United Conference.

WEEK EIGHTEEN DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK -DB BRANDON HENRY/ ABILENE RUFF RIDERS

Outsiders may have looked at Abilene's game against Odessa last week as merely a tune up game before the playoffs, but Brandon Henry played the game as if it were for the Championship. The Ruff Rider defensive back was all over the field recording nine solo tackles and two assists for a total of ten tackles. His biggest play of the night came in the second quarter when he jumped a route and picked off Roughnecks Quarterback Jason Johnson returning it 19 yards for a touchdown. Abilene is set to host the Stampede Express this weekend, with the winner getting another crack at the Division Champions Generals.

WEEK EIGHTEEN SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK-WR/KR DEANGELO WOODIE/EL PASO GENERALS

Easily regarded as one of the top offensive players in the league, Deangelo Woodie does whatever is asked of him to get his Generals team closer to hoisting the United Trophy in August. In their regular season finale against San Angelo, he was asked to go back for a second quarter kick return in a tight one score battle. Upon catching the ball at his own goal line, Woodie avoided all would be tacklers and raced for a 50 yard touchdown. That score would prove to be crucial as the Generals won the game by eight points and finished their season with a 12-2 record. With the bye, Woodie and the rest of the Generals now must wait a week and see whether they will face Abilene or San Angelo in the second round of the playoffs.

The Divisional Rounds of Playoffs begin this Saturday, July 18, as the San Angelo Stampede Express head to Abilene to take on the Ruff Riders and the Wichita Wild travel to Bloomington to face the Extreme. Kickoff for both is scheduled for 7:00 PM. Follow all the action at www.goifl.com and on the B2 broadcasts www.b2livetv.com of each game all season long.
