Game Rewind
The IceRays concluded their season with four games last week. The Rays started the week on Wednesday (3/13) as they hosted the Austin Ice Bats. Corpus Christi started the scoring late in the first period when Matt Sharuga scored his 12th goal of the season. The Rays would extended their lead early in the second period when Layne Roland scored his team high 31st of the season. Austin would mount the comeback in the third period when both Brett Seguin (25) and Gerald Tallaire (28) scored to the tie the game at 2-2. The game would eventually head into a shootout, where it would be won a goal by Mike Gaffney (1), as the Bats came from behind to defeat the Rays 3-2.

Corpus Christi would head on the road for the final time on Friday (3/15), as they traveled to Fort Worth to play the Brahmas. Fort Worth would own the first period, scoring the game's first three goals. Late in the opening period, the Rays managed to get on the board when Roland (32) scored on a rebound to make the score 3-1. In the second period, the IceRays received their wakeup call, as the Rays erased the Brahmas lead. First it was Sharuga scoring from the left circle to cut the Brahmas lead to 3-2. The IceRays would tie the game up later in the period, when Roland netted his 33rd of the season and second of the game. The IceRays would complete the come back 3 minutes later, when Cory Evans forced a shot from the right circle to give the Rays a 4-3 lead. The Brahmas would conclude the scoring in the period, when Peter Cava (19) scored on a rebound to tie the game at 4-4. In the final period, the Brahmas would go back in front on a goal by Mike Tilson (11). The IceRays would answer the call again later in the period, when Shaun Fairweather (4) deflected a shot past Cameron McDonald. The IceRays would put the game way with just over 3 minutes to play in regulation when Roland found Kurt Wickenheiser (23) for the game winner, as the Rays defeated the Brahmas 6-5. The assist for Roland capped off a 5-point night for the Rays MVP.

The Rays returned home on Saturday (3/16), as they hosted the San Antonio Iguanas. Just like the night prior, the IceRays got off to a slow start, as the Iggy's jumped out to 2-nothing lead after the opening period. In the second period, the IceRays got on the board on Wickenheiser's 24th goal of the season, which cut the San Antonio lead to 2-1. San Antonio would answer back when Mark DeSantis (13) beat Eddy Skazyk with a slap shot to give the Iguanas a 3-1 lead. In the third period, Corpus Christi dominated the pace, and as a result the scoring in the period, when Yann Joseph (7) scored to bring the IceRays within a goal. The Rays would tie the game on an amazing shot from the left circle from Alex Kholomeyev (13). The game would head into overtime, and then into an eventual shootout, where the Rays would win it on a goal by Evans (5), as the IceRays for the second straight night come from behind, this time to beat San Antonio 4-3. The shootout win was just the second overtime victory for the Rays in 15 opportunities. Also, the victory was the first this season for the IceRays when trailing their opponent heading into the third period (1-33-5).

The IceRays played their fourth game in 5 nights, as well as concluded their season on Sunday (3/17) at home against the Fort Worth Brahmas. The meeting was the second between the two team in less then 48 hours. The IceRays started the scoring in the first period on a goal by Roger Lewis (5). The Brahams answered the Rays goal with a goal from Cava (16), which tied the game at 1-1 entering the second period. Fort Worth took the lead 58 seconds into the second period, when Jason Campbell scored his 28th goal of the season. The Rays would tie the game up less then 3 minutes later when Fairweather scored a rebound to tie the game at 2-2. Fort Worth would continue the seesaw contest on a goal by Craig Johnson (5), which gave the Brahmas a 3-2 lead. The IceRays would take over from there, scoring the game's next four goals. First it was Evans tying the game at 3-3 with his 5th goal of the year. The IceRays would take the lead for good 13:21 into the second period, when Wickenheiser scored a wraparound shorthanded goal to give the Rays a 4-3 lead. The IceRays would get the eventual game-winning goal late in the second period, when Fairweather (6) netted his second goal of the game to put the Rays up 5-3. The IceRays would go ahead 6-3 early in the third period, on a goal by Joseph (8). Fort Worth would score once more, on a one-timer by Jason Clarke (22), but it wouldn't be enough as the IceRays defeated the Brahmas 6-4. The IceRays end the season on a three game winning streak, and with a final record of 16-35-13.
