IceRays to Honor War Hero During Stars & Stripes Night

November 15, 2012 - North American Hockey League (NAHL) - Corpus Christi IceRays News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - With the annual Stars & Stripes Night approaching this Saturday against the Fairbanks IceDogs, the Corpus Christi IceRays will pay tribute to Loren Wesley Plummer Jr., a WWII veteran, and longtime IceRays season ticket holder, who passed away this offseason.

"On behalf of the IceRays organization, we are honored to dedicate this game to a true hero," said IceRays general manager Pat Dunn. "Wes had quite an interesting life. He was as humble as they come. We would like to express our gratitude to Wes and his wife Kay for their unconditional support throughout the years. He will be truly missed."

"Wes", as his friends called him won many awards during the 1940's in WWII for his contributions at the battle of Iwo Jima. Among the many awards that Plummer received are the Purple Heart (being injured in action) and the Bronze Star (given for bravery, acts of merit, or meritorious service).

Those who knew him best said our community lost a great man. "We're very, very grateful to him and his service," U.S. Marine Col. Marshall Denny III said.

The IceRays will hold a moment of silence prior to the puck drop, along with a tribute video as well.

The IceRays return home this weekend as they take on the Fairbanks IceDogs, who make their first visit to the American Bank Center. Puck drops at 7:05PM, coverage begins at 6:50PM with the IceRays Pregame Show on sportsjuice.com, the TuneIn Radio APP, and fasthockey.com.
