IceRays Get Their (Masked) Man, Re-Sign Tebbs

July 23, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL) - Corpus Christi IceRays News Release

The Corpus Christi IceRays have re-signed goaltender Kris Tebbs for the 2009-2010 season, IceRays General Manager/Senior VP, Pat Dunn announced today. Tebbs was the runner-up for last season's IceRays Team MVP award, leading a charge in the second half of the season that landed Corpus Christi in the playoffs. Tebbs is the eighth player and first goaltender signed by the IceRays this off-season. He also is the sixth returning player from last season's squad. The IceRays are currently in preparation for the 2009-2010 season. Season tickets and corporate sponsorship packages are available. For more information please call the IceRays at 361.814.PUCK.

Tebbs, 27, returns to Corpus Christi for his second campaign after providing a backbone to the IceRays roster last year. Tebbs began the season platooning the crease with Dustin Traylen, however after Traylen was released just after the All-Star Break, Tebbs was a workhorse down the stretch. Tebbs started the season's final 19 games and 30 of the last 31, elevating his play in the process and leading the IceRays back into the playoffs for the first time since 2007. Overall, Tebbs finished the season with a 24-20-5 record, a 3.00 GAA and a .908 save percentage. However, after Traylen left the team, with the season hanging in the balance, Tebbs improved those numbers. From Jan. 17th through the end of the regular season, Tebbs went 15-10-2 with a 2.54 GAA and .916 save percentage.

Tebbs finished the season with a career-high 51 games played which also paced all CHL netminders. He also led the league in saves with 1406, and finished second in minutes played. His 24 wins ranked fourth in the CHL. The numbers that Tebbs put up become even more impressive when stacked against the difficult competition the IceRays played down the stretch to earn a playoff spot.

The upcoming season will be the sixth of Tebbs' professional career which has seen him play in three different leagues for seven different teams. Prior to turning pro, Tebbs played his college hockey at University of Nebraska - Omaha, where he was teammates with current IceRays forward Ryan Bennett.

IceRays Head Coach Brent Hughes said that the play of Tebbs was instrumental in the team's success after he assumed the role of Head Coach. When building a new team from the start of the season, he said he was confident in what Tebbs provided at the goaltending position.

"Im happy to bring back Tebbsy, he played outstanding for the time I was here last season. He will be a key to winning hockey games this year. Being a second year here in Corpus, he will be more comfortable with the environment surrounding him" said Coach Hughes.

Corpus Christi IceRays hockey returns for a brand new season in October. Don't miss a second of the fast-paced, hard-hitting action of IceRays hockey as they cool off the Coastal Bend.
