IceRays Drop Heartbreaker in Overtime to Wildcats, 2-1

Mac Olson scored twice, including the overtime game-winner, to help propel the Wichita Falls Wildcats past the Corpus Christi IceRays, 2-1, at the Kay Yeager Coliseum Friday night. With the loss the Rays drop their record to 6-4-2 (14 points) while Wichita Falls improves to 8-2-2 (18 points) with the win.

Cody Milligan scored his fourth goal for the IceRays and Marco Wieser made a season-high 45 saves in the losing effort.

Neither team found the scoreboard in the first period as both Marco Wieser and Tyler Green each were strong to begin things through the first 20 minutes. Shots were 10-6 in favor of Wichita Falls.

The Wildcats tallied first at the 3:04 mark of the second period through Olson's fourth goal of the season assisted by Ryan Frost. However, Corpus Christi responded, 10:28 into the middle frame as Milligan (4), the youngest member of the IceRays, one-timed a pass from Jake Diamond past Green, knotting the game at 1-1. The Wildcats held the shot advantage, 16-7.

The game remained tied through the third period and the teams headed for overtime for the second time this season.

In overtime, Olson (5) collected a rebound and beat Wieser with just 47 seconds remaining to win the game for the Wildcats, 2-1.

The IceRays return home for two games at the American Bank Center against the Texas Tornado with the first game on Saturday October 23 at 7:05 PM.
