IceRays Acquire Chris Greene from Wichita
The Corpus Christi IceRays have acquired All-Star forward Chris Greene from the Wichita Thunder in exchange for Mike Zbriger and future considerations, General Manager Pat Dunn announced Thursday afternoon. Greene is in his third professional season, and has spent the majority of his career in the Central Hockey League, previously playing for the Arizona Sundogs and Thunder. He is expected to join the IceRays in Colorado in time for their game vs. the Rocky Mountain Rage on Friday night. Corpus Christi also announced that defenseman John Adams has been re-assigned back to the IceRays from the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League. The IceRays are currently on a four-game road trip and return to Corpus Christi on Thursday, November 29th at 7:05pm to host the Texas Brahmas. Greene, 23, joins the IceRays for his third CHL stop and fourth overall pro team. This season with Wichita the 6'2", 191 lbs. forward posted 19 points (4g, 15a) in 36 games. He was the Thunder's representative in the CHL All-Star Game earlier this month. Overall, in his three-year career, the Massena, NY native has played in 159 games and notched 77 points (14g, 63a), while adding 278 penalty minutes.
After playing junior hockey in the OHL, Greene played nine games for the Reading Royals in the ECHL. Then in the 2006-2007 season, he played his first full season with the Arizona Sundogs. He appeared in 91 games for the Sundogs plus 13 playoff games including a seven-game series against Corpus Christi in the 2007 playoffs. Midway through the 2007-2008 season he was traded to Wichita where he had remained until the trade that now brings him to South Texas.
Zbriger, 26, had 29 points (13g, 16a) in 36 games this season for Corpus Christi. He is in his third pro season and first in the CHL.
The IceRays also announced that they were re-assigned defenseman John Adams from the Houston Aeros of the AHL. Adams had been on call with the Aeros since December 30th. In 13 games for the Aeros this season Adams has one assist and eight PIM. With Corpus Christi this year he has ten points (3g, 7a) and 30 PIM in 21 games. Adams was signed to a five-game contract by the IceRays upon his return, and is expected to be in the lineup on Friday night.
