Louisiana IceGators News Release

LAFAYETTE, LA - The IceGators are inviting fans to attend the game this weekend and meet a legend and help a local children's hospital. When the IceGators drop the puck against the FireAntz on Friday, December 10, one of horse racing greats, Kent Desormeaux will be the honorary captain. Then when the 'Gators return to the ice on Saturday, December 11 also against the FireAntz, fans will get the chance to help Acadiana Children's Hospital and get a voucher for a future IceGator game.

On Friday night Kent Desormeaux, a member of the United States Racing Hall of Fame, will be the honorary captain and signing autographs for fans in attendance. Desormeaux has almost 5,300 wins. He has had success on the biggest stages of horse racing. Desormeaux has won the Kentucky Derby three times, in '98 on Real Quiet, 2000 on Fusaichi Pegasus, and in '08 aboard Big Brown. He has also come close to winning the Triple Crown twice. In '98, he lost by a nose in the final stride of the Belmont Stakes and in '08 when he had to ease up on the horse when he got tired at the quarter pole. Since 2000, he has also ranked in the top-10 in national earnings list for jockeys five times (2000, '02, '07, '08, and '09).

In addition to Desormeaux dropping the puck, one lucky fan will win a pearl necklace courtesy of Andy's Jewelry.

When the team returns to the ice on Saturday night, fans are encouraged to bring a teddy bear to donate to the Acadiana Children's Hospital. Each fan that brings a teddy bear will receive a voucher for a future IceGator game.

The 'Gators will return to the ice on Thursday, December 9 at Mississippi. Then the IceGators return to the Dome for a two game series against the Fayetteville FireAntz, on Friday December 10 and Saturday, December 11.
