IceGators Look to Continue Winning Streak

LAFAYETTE, LA - The Louisiana IceGators will return to the ice for three games starting Thursday, December 9. During the three games the 'Gators will take on the Mississippi Surge and the Fayetteville FireAntz. The IceGators will travel to Biloxi to play the Surge on Thursday at 7:05 and the FireAntz will return to the ice on Friday, December 10 and Saturday, December 11 each at 7:05.
The 'Gators last me the Surge on Tuesday, November 23 at the Cajundome. Mississippi jumped all of the 'Gators scoring four goals in the opening period. At one time the 'Gators trailed the Surge 7-1, before adding two goals to lose 7-3. Matt Zultek (MIS) had a hat trick in route to the victory.
The IceGators take on the FireAntz of Fayetteville for the first time since November 19 and November 20. The 'Gators won the first game on Friday night 4-2 and on Saturday night 3-1. Over the weekend the 'Gators had seven different players score a goal and went 5-16 on power plays, while allowing the FireAntz to go 0-9. Scott Darling (LOU) had 65 saves in the two games.
This weekend, Louisiana will look for Darling to have a big weekend. Darling ranks first in the Southern Professional Hockey League with 410 saves. Both of Fayetteville's goalies are ninth and tenth, Adam Avramenko has 212 saves and Guy St. Vincent has 188. Mississippi's goalies are farther down on the list. Mike Brown (MIS) is 12th with 148 saves and Dan Earles is 13th with 139 saves. Darling will be put to the test as both of the teams he will face have players in the top three of goals in the SPHL. Fayetteville's right wing Robert Sich leads the league with 17 goals and Mississippi's Matt Zultek is third in the league with 14 goals.
"We are going to have to bring our "A" game," answered IceGator Head Coach Dave MacIsaac when asked about this weekend's games. "Last weekend, we had three solid games but we need to keep building on it. We have been working hard and look forward to getting back on the ice against the Surge. We are going to have to focus on playing good defense and helping our goalies out by clearing the puck."
The 'Gators will return to the ice on Thursday, December 9 at Mississippi. Then the IceGators return to the Dome for a two game series against the Fayetteville FireAntz, on Friday December 10 and Saturday, December 11.
