Louisiana IceGators News Release

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--Throughout their history, the Louisiana IceGators have made a habit of rising from adversity.

The did it once again Saturday night.

Despite starting the game with two of their star players out with injuries and ending the game with another two hurt, the IceGators snapped a five-game losing streak by beating the Huntsville Havoc 5-2. Geordie Wudrick and Blake Hietala each scored twice to lead the IceGators to victory.

The IceGators return to action Friday night when they travel to play the Pensacola IceFlyers. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.

"We got a great team win tonight with a depleted squad," IceGators head coach Drew Omcioli said. "We started the game short with (defenseman Eric) Tallent and (forward Dylan) Hood out. Then, we had to finish with (goalie Adam) Courchaine and (defenseman Ben) Kramer battling injuries.

"Hietala played his best game of the year, and I think Wudrick was equally as good. Our defensive core and our goaltending did their jobs. The offense overpowered the opponent. It was a great overall performance."

Wudrick and Hietala notched their first goals of the night in the first period, giving Louisiana a 2-0 advantage heading into the first intermission. John Daniels and Hietala added two more goal early in the second period to put the IceGators ahead 4-0 with 12:52 left in the frame.

Huntsville finally got on the scoreboard at the 7:26 mark of the second period when Dave Williams scored.

Wudrick scored his second goal at the midway point of the third period to put the IceGators ahead 5-2.

The Havoc cut the deficit down to three with a Dylan Nowakowski power play goal with 6:27 left in regulation, but the IceGators held the Havoc at bay for the remainder of the game.

Now, Omicioli says his team is turning its focus to Friday night's game and a team that's had the Icegators' number all season long.

"We have to get prepared for a very difficult Pensacola team," Omicioli said.
