Louisiana IceGators News Release
LAFAYETTE, LA -During the last game of the 2010 year the Louisiana IceGators traveled to Columbus to take on the Cottonmouths. The âGators were in search of ending the ten game losing streak but tonight was not going to be the night. The âGators fell to the Cottonmouths 3-0 in the last game of the year.
The first period began slowly. The first shot on goal was with 17:19 left in the period by Brent Clarke (COL). Columbus followed the first shot of the game with the first goal of the game when Sam Bowles (COL) scored his 14th goal of the season following a Tobias Karlsson (LOU) penalty for holding. Daryl Moore (COL) then pushed the puck past Adam Dekker (LOU), Louisiana's goalie, with 1:27 left in the period to put the Cottonmouths up 2-0 at the end of the first period.
The second period began just as slow as the first period. There were three shots in the first five minutes of the half. The Cottonmouths made the first mistake of the half when Jordan Braid (COL) was called for interference. The âGators were able to get four shots on goal but none of them got past Ian Vigier (COL), Columbus's goalie, during the power play. With 9:20 left in the period, Kirill Kitsyn (LOU) was called for tripping and that put the Cottonmouths on the power play. They capitalize about a minute and a half later when Kyle Lundale (COL) scored to put the Cottonmouths up 3-0.
The third period began with the IceGators on a man advantage for the first 1:28 of the period. However, the âGators were unable to take advantage of the power play. During the period Louisiana outshot the Cottonmouths 14-6 in the period but each goalie, Dekker and Vigier were up to the task. During one stretch the âGators put constant pressure getting 12 out of 14 shots on goal from 15:38 to 3:11 but none of them went past the goalie.
"This was a tough game to take," replied the new IceGators Head Coach Kevin Kaminski. "We played some players that were hurt and they showed a lot of guts and heart. They impressed me but that doesn't win the games. We have to step up and focus and we will have success."
The âGators will then celebrate the New Year in the Dome on Saturday, January 1 against the IceBears of Knoxville at 7:05. Then the Surge come back to the Dome on January 4. Don't miss your chance to bring a group to the game and take advantage of the 10 for 10 program. Groups of 10 can purchase tickets for $10. Call (337) 704-4423 for great season ticket and mini package opportunities, as well as the 10 for 10 program.
