Ice Flyers Edge RiverHawks in Overtime

Pensacola Ice Flyers' forward Chris Wilson picked up a loose puck at the side of the net and beat sprawling RiverHawks' goaltender Jordan McLaughlin for the winning goal in overtime Friday night as the Ice Flyers edged the RiverHawks 6-5.

The win is the third in a row for the Ice Flyers who snapped a three-game winning streak for the RiverHawks.

The RiverHawks exploded out of the gates with two goals in the first 2:15. First it was Lucas Labelle who deflected a blast from the point off the stick of defenseman Luke Lucyk. Then just 1:25 later Ryan Olidis made a nice move to his backhand to convert a pass from Matt Auffrey.

The Ice Flyers quickly responded as Dean Yakura hammered in a one-timer off a pass from Robert Short 16 seconds later to narrow the lead to one goal. The RiverHawks regained the lead when Auffrey took a pass from Branden Kosolofsky and slipped it past the Ice Flyers' goaltender. The Flyers would make it a one-goal game again before the end of the first period as Brett Liscomb fired another one-timer past RiverHawks' goaltender Jordan McLaughlin.

Things did not slow down in the third period as both teams scored two goals, highlighted by RiverHawks' forward Aaron McGill's highlight reel penalty shot effort which beat Ice Flyers' goaltender Robert Scott. The penalty shot goal gave the RiverHawks a one-goal lead.

The only goal in the third period was Wilson's first of the night which sent the game into overtime.
