IceGators Fall to Surge, 2-1

Biloxi, Mississippi--The Louisiana IceGators were on the wrong side of a goalies' duel. Dan Clarke stopped all but one of the IceGators 38 shots to lead the Mississippi Surge to a 2-1 victory. The IceGators had trouble converting powerplay opportunities, going one-for-eight with a man advantage. Louisiana goalie Riley Gill stopped 24 Surge shots.
The IceGators (11-6-1) and the Surge (10-8-1) square off again tomorrow at 3:05 P. M. in the Cajundome.
"I thought we played a very solid road game," said IceGators Coach Kevin Kaminski. "Our execution was good, but we didn't have the grease or grit on second effort attempts to score goals. We played on the perimeter. We need to get our nose dirty and pay the price if we want to score."
Corey Tamblyn opened the scoring for Mississippi eight minutes into the first period. His goal came off of assists from Payden Benning and Tommy Lange. It took another 44 minutes of game play before another goal was recorded. Jay Silvia scored off of assists from Jarkko Leppanen and Reid Edmondson to give the Surge a 2-0 lead. The IceGators cut the deficit to one with 1:05 remaining in regulation when Denny Kearney scored an unassisted powerplay goal. However, the effort was too much, too little, and too late, as they could not overcome the Surge's lead.
Kaminski says he needs his team to crowd the net more and fight for second-chance opportunities. "I guarantee you, if we go to the blue paint and take a beating, we're going to be rewarded," he said. "We need to turn it up one more notch and initiate and dictate the whole game. We have to play and passion and heart all the time."
