Niagara IceDogs News Release

Niagara finds themselves tied for fourth in the Eastern Conference after a hearty victory over Ottawa tonight.

The IceDogs looked like a well rested team this evening as they came out strong against the Ottawa 67's. Niagara dominated most of the play in the opening frame and were the first ones on the board thanks to a deflection in front of the net by Stephen Harper assisted by Aleksander Mikulovich and Josh Ho-Sang (the goal has yet to be officially credited to Harper). Ottawa would tie it up before all was said and done however, thanks to a two-on-one shorthanded goal half way through the first period. The IceDogs outshot the 67's 14-5 in the opening 20 minutes.

The second period found both teams coming out of the gate looking for blood after three fights took place in the frame. Nick Pastorious impressed both teams, along with the Ottawa crowd, for holding his own against Ottawa's 6'7 d-man after sticking up for teammate Ben Jones who was on the wrong end of a massive hit. Brendan Perlini was feeding off the momentum from the bouts, scoring his 21st of the season after a nice play from Ryan Mantha to keep the puck on the right side of the blueline. Niagara continued to outshoot Ottawa through 40 minutes, concluding the period leading 26-12 in shots.

The third and final period was more domination by Niagara. Leading the way for the IceDogs was Perlini, adding another goal and an assist in the final 20 minutes to cap off a three point night. Not to be forgotten was Jordan Maletta who scored his team-leading 30th goal of the season to secure a victory for his team.

The IceDogs next home game is set to take place on Saturday, February 27th against the Guelph Storm. Tickets for this game and all other IceDog home games for the remainder of the season can be purchased at all Niagara IceDogs ticketing locations.
