Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs fell to the Mississauga Steelheads by a score of 5-2 in Mississauga on Friday night.
Both teams put in a solid defensive first period, keeping the game scoreless for much of the period until Steven Shipley continued his strong play by picking up his fifth goal in the last three games to give the IceDogs a 1-0 lead 18:03 in. That would prove to be the only goal of the period as the IceDogs headed into the intermission with a one goal lead. Shots after one favoured Mississauga 8-7.
The second period would see the IceDogs maintain their 1-0 lead for much of the period, until Mississauga final found the score sheet on the powerplay, making it 1-1 at the 14:25 mark of the period. Unfortunately the scoring would not stop there as Mississauga would add two more quick goal to take a 3-1 lead. The IceDogs would answer back before the end of the period, as Aaron Haydon would rip one home to make it 3-2 after 40 minutes. Jordan Maletta would pick up an assist on the play for his first point as an IceDog after being acquired earlier in the day.
The IceDogs would look for the equalizer in the early part of the third, but would be unable to tie things up and Mississauga would add some insurance with a goal just past the midway point of the period to make it 4-2. Mississauga would add another goal quickly to make it 5-2 and that would prove to be it for scoring as the IceDogs fell by that same 5-2 score.
The IceDogs will now return home to St. Catharines where they will play host to the visiting Sarnia Sting Sunday afternoon at 2pm. Tickets for this and all other IceDogs home games are still available and can be purchased at all IceDogs ticketing locations.
