
IceDogs Double Up on Majors

Mississauga, Ont. (Friday, Feb. 9, 2007) - It was a close game between the Mississauga IceDogs and St. Michael's Majors this evening...during the first-half. Then, the IceDogs cranked up the offence and skated off with a 6-3 win. As a result, the Majors record dips to 15-35-2-1 on the year.
Power-plays made the difference through the first two periods. Luca Caputi gave the IceDogs an early 1-0 lead, only 1:50 into the affair, with a power-play marker off of Matt Corrente and Stefan Legein feeds. Toronto's Kaspars Daugavins tied up the game at 15:36 with a man-advantage goal of his own, after receiving Micheal Haley and Tim Billingsley passes. Then, Rob Kwiet's power-play goal three minutes later, with support from Billingsley and Matt Piva, gave the Majors a 2-1 lead.
Michael Swift drew the IceDogs even with an unassisted tally at 1:35 of the middle stanza. Then, the veteran forward added a power-play marker at 16:31, with the assists going to Corrente and Chris Lawrence, to give the home squad a 3-2 lead heading into the 3rd period.
The IceDogs put the game out of reach with goals at 4:37 (power-play), 9:38 and 16:27 of the 3rd period. The goalscorers were Jadran Beljo, Jordan Owens and Alex Pietrangelo while the helpers were credited to Lawrence, Swift, Legein, Caputi, Jean-Michel Rizk and Oskar Osala.
Matt Piva added a third goal for the Majors, on the power-play, with 1:45 remaining in the game, but that's all they could muster. The final St. Mike's assists went to Haley and Daugavins.
With three power-play goals apiece, the teams combined to go 6 for 13 on the man-advantage. Wayne Savage was very impressive in the Majors goal, turning aside 54 shots. Andrew Loverock responded with 28 saves for the IceDogs.
The Majors complete the weekend by returning home to host the Peterborough Petes on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
