St. John's IceCaps News Release

ST. JOHN'S, NL. - The St. John's IceCaps Military Appreciation Weekend kicked off tonight with the Providence Bruins just edging the IceCaps 2-1 in a close game at Mile One Centre.

The Bruins' Wayne Simpson scored just 27 seconds into the first, giving Providence the early lead.

IceCaps defenceman Ryan Johnston scored his first pro-goal - and the game tying tally to finish off the first frame at one apiece. Nikita Scherbak and Sven Andrighetto picked up the helpers on Johnston's goal.

Peter Cehlarik scored the go-ahead marker for the Bruins in the second, and although the IceCaps fought hard, they were unable to send the game to overtime.

IceCaps netminder Charlie Lindgren stopped 28 of the 30 shots he faced in a second-star performance, while Bruins goaltender Dan Vladar earned the first star with 30 blocks.

Zach Redmond was the IceCaps Hardest Working Player in his debut with the Montreal Franchise version of the team. Redmond also suited up for the Jets-IceCaps franchise for multiple seasons.
