St. John's IceCaps News Release
Bobby Robins scored just 22 seconds into the game and Niklas Svenberg made 18 saves to lift the Providence Bruins to a 3-0 win over the St. John's IceCaps Sunday afternoon at Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, RI.
Carter Camper and Lane MacDermid also scored for Providence (3-5-0-0), which picked up its first home win of the season in four chances. Eddie Pasquale was peppered with 38 shots and kept St. John's (5-6-0-0) in the game, making 35 saves in total. Ben Maxwell led the way with four shots on goal for the IceCaps, who were playing their third game in three days.
The IceCaps got off to a rough start when the Bruins scored just 22 seconds after the opening faceoff. Christian Hanson wired a shot from inside the blueline that struck Pasquale in the mask, and the rebound caromed to an open Robins, who slapped home his first of the season for a 1-0 Bruins lead.
Providence made it 2-0 on a two-man advantage late in the second period. Ryan Spooner took a pass from Chris Bourque and sent a perfect feed cross-crease feed to Camper, who one-timed the puck into the empty cage.
The Bruins added an insurance marker 5:40 into the final frame. After a scramble in front, during which Pasquale made several saves, MacDermid pounced on the loose puck and fired a shot into the back of the net for a 3-0 advantage.
St. John's struggled again on the power play, going 0-for-7. Providence was 1-for-5 with the man advantage.
The IceCaps get two days off before travelling to Manchester to face the Monarchs Wednesday night at Verizon Wireless Arena. Catch all the action with broadcaster Brian Rogers at www.stjohnsicecaps.com and on 930AM This Is Newfoundland Labrador, or watch live online at www.ahllive.com.
