July 19, 2012 - American Hockey League (AHL)
St. John's IceCaps News Release

Giving back to the community was a fundamental and essential goal of the St. John's IceCaps management when the American Hockey League (AHL) returned to St. John's last year. Shortly after the team arrived in St. John's, the IceCaps Care Foundation was formed.

Partnering with the Williams Family Foundation, the two organizations raise funds for various education and literacy programs as well as providing financial and moral support to various charities. Danny Williams, President and CEO of the St. John's IceCaps made today's presentation to representatives of Racing with the Reverend, Driving Autism Awareness, including Reverend David Burrows and Elaine Dobbin of the Newfoundland Autism Society.

"We are so incredibly proud to present the Autism Society through Racing with the Reverend with $10,000, which will assist them in the incredible work they do every day for our province's children who are affected by this diagnosis," said Mr. Williams. "Our goal has always been to reach out and support as many local charities as possible, and we are incredibly proud that as of right now, IceCaps Care and the Williams Family Foundation have contributed to more than 300 local charities, groups and individuals in less than one year. This is an incredible achievement and the staff and team are humbled to be able to give back to the community, which have in turn been such an outstanding support system for us."

Williams said IceCaps Care and the Williams Family Foundation give both financially and through in-kind donations, ranging in everything from hockey stick and jersey donations for auctions, player appearances at special events, as well as Buddy the Puffin appearances at special events. The players, staff and Buddy have attended several events from school functions to celebrity hockey games to seniors' home parties.

"Racing with the Reverend is pleased to partner with Danny Williams, the St. John's Icecaps and the Williams Foundation as they become a Major Sponsor of this project, which raises awareness and funds for ASNL," said Reverend Burrows. "This contribution will assist us in our goal of providing an opportunity for those with Autism to go from a place of struggle to a place of hope."

Racing with the Reverend, Driving Autism Awareness is a unique fundraising effort being supported by the Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador, whereby the Parish of the Ascension will raise funds through their participation in Targa 2012.

The funds raised are by the IceCaps Care Foundation through 50/50 ticket sales, golf tournaments and other fundraising efforts. Mr. Williams' public sector pension and other private family funding fund the Williams Family Foundation.
