Amarillo Bulls News Release
Amarillo, TX - Two third period goals would be too much for the Amarillo Bulls to overcome, as they fell to the New Mexico Ice Wolves 5-2 on Tuesday night.
The fans waited just beyond the mid-way point of the opening frame to see the Ice Wolves take the lead when Emil Gabrielson scored on an odd-man rush to give New Mexico the 1-0 lead. Late in the period, Lauri Sertti would answer for Amarillo, scoring his sixth of the season, to send the teams into the dressing rooms tied at 1-1.
The Bulls fell behind early into the second period after a Spencer Rudrud goal put the Ice Wolves ahead 2-1. New Mexico extended their lead when Keegan Langefels fired a shot from the blue line to increase the margin to a pair of goals. With 10 seconds remaining in the period, Matt Allen Scored his 15th goal of the year, notching the tally on the powerplay, to bring the Bulls within a single goal.
New Mexico would pull away from Amarillo in the third period, as Gabrielson and Drew Lorinchak would net goals, solidifying the Ice Wolves victory.
With the loss, the Bulls are now 23-6-1-2 and hold 49 points and second place in the South Division. The team remains just two points back of the Lone Star Brahmas for the division lead.
The Bulls will remain at home on Friday, January 3, to take on the Kenai River Brown Bears. Mark Shelley will broadcast the game from the Spicy Mike's Bar-B-Q Broadcast Booth, and the action will begin at 7:05PM CST on 107.1 Nash Icon and Hockey TV.
