NEXT ICE GAMES SEASON RECORD: 9-13-4 Wednesday, December 28 WATERLOO 7 p.m., Pepsi Coliseum Friday, December 30 DES MOINES 7 p.m., Pepsi Coliseum
NOTE: The team is on a holiday break until 12/27.
PACKED PEPSI: Saturday night's match-up against Cedar Rapids, which was billed as "Dukes of Hazzard Night," was a near sell-out for the Ice with a crowd of 7,882. This number tops the previous season-high of 7,842 fans for Opening Night back on October 8th. In addition to hosting Tom Wopat, who starred in the "Dukes of Hazzard" TV series, the Ice welcomed more than 3,900 boy scouts to the game.
DEL GROSSO DEL-IVERS: Defenseman Eddie Del Grosso enjoyed a solid weekend by posting two goals, including the game winner in overtime on Friday night against Tri-City. In the past seven games, Del Grosso has exploded for four goals and five assists. The second year player leads all USHL defensemen in points (25), goals (12), power play goals (9), shots (87), and shorthanded goals (2).
PHILLIPPI PRODUCING: Normally considered a "stay-at-home" defenseman, Mike Phillippi currently has a three game assist streak which started on December 11 against Sioux Falls. Phillippi has posted four assists in his last three contests and will look to extend his streak when the team returns to action on December 28 against Waterloo. Brian Gifford had a five-game assist streak earlier this season, which is the Ice season-high.
SHORT SUCCESS: The Ice rank second in the USHL with ten shorthanded goals on the season. Eddie Del Grosso and Mike Hull share the team lead with two shorthanded goals each. A total of eight different players have registered one shorthanded goal for the team.
PLAYER NOTES: Eddie Del Grosso is 5th in the USHL with a .138 shooting percentage (12 for 87)...Four different Ice players currently have tallied points in two of the last three games...Forward Justin Milo has three goals in the past four games.
TEAM NOTES: With Friday night's overtime win, the Ice improved to 4-2-4 on the season in one goal games...The Ice set a season low mark with 0 penalty minutes against Tri-City on Friday...Three of the team's four home wins have come against Tri-City...The Ice outshot Tri-City 27-24 on Friday, which improved the team's record to 4-1-1 when they outshoot an opponent.
