West Texas Roughnecks News Release
ODESSA, TX. : The Odessa Roughnecks could not overcome second half turnovers on Saturday, May 30 against Colorado as the Ice defeated the Roughnecks 60 - 50. The first half was very much a back and forth battle between both squads as the Ice struck first in the ball game with a one-yard touchdown from RB Eugene Reed. Odessa countered with a DeWayne Hogan eight-yard touchdown run to tie the game at seven. RB Eugene Reed added his second rushing touchdown of the ball game this time from 11 yards out as Colorado held a 13 - 7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Odessa's defense stepped up in the second quarter as DL Ahmad Childress was able to recover two consecutive fumbles. The Roughnecks took advantage of the turnovers as QB Dennis Gile found WR Eric Taylor for a 31-yard touchdown pass and Gile added a one-yard touchdown run to give Odessa a 21 - 13 lead. Colorado WR George Hill recorded two touchdown receptions in the second quarter to cut into the deficit but DeWayne Hogan added a three-yard touchdown run for Odessa, giving the Roughnecks a 28 - 26 lead at halftime.
The start of the second half did not roll in the Roughnecks favor as Dennis Gile threw two interceptions on the first two drives of the half for Odessa. Colorado took advantage as Eugene Reed added two touchdown runs to give the Ice a 40 - 28 lead. Gile found WR Torrey Day for a 17-yard touchdown pass to close out the third quarter, however the Roughnecks still trailed at 40 - 35.
The beginning portion of the fourth quarter was a defensive battle between both teams but the Ice were able to find the end-zone with six minutes to go in regulation. Justin Gallas caught a 27-yard touchdown pass from QB Justin Holland extending Colorado's lead at 47 - 35. Colorado arguably sealed things when the defense recovered a Roughnecks fumbled snap in the end-zone for the touchdown. Odessa attempted a late comeback as Jimmy Conner caught a 14-yard touchdown pass and DeWayne Hogan added his third rushing touchdown in the ball game. But another rushing touchdown for Eugene Reed clinched any hopes of a last-minute comeback as Colorado held on for the win.

Justin Holland threw for 180 yards and four touchdowns as Josh Gibson grabbed six catches for 82 yards.
