STEWART'S SECOND PROFESSION?: Honorary Assistant Coach and guest of the Ice, Tony Stewart, helped propel the team to victory Friday night over Sioux Falls by returning to the bench late in the third period after signing autographs and chatting with fans throughout the second period. The NASCAR Champ was bestowed the title as one of the "Three Stars of the Game" after the victory. Stewart enjoyed Friday night's atmosphere so much he decided to return to Pepsi Coliseum on Saturday and resume his role of Assistant Coach. The Indiana native finished the weekend with a rather impressive 1-1-0 record versus the USHL-leading Stampede.
SELFLESS STREAKS: Forwards Garrett Roe and John Kemp have dished out a combined 13 assists in the past five games. The duo combined for an astounding seven assists in Friday night's 6-5 overtime victory over Sioux Falls. Roe's four assists that evening tied the USHL season-high mark, while Kemp's three assists gave him his third three-point outing of the season. Roe's recent scoring outburst has catapulted him to the team lead in points (28), while Kemp continues to lead the squad in assists with 19 on the season.
McILRATH MAKES HIS MARK: In just his third game back from injury, forward Todd McIlrath made his presence known on Friday by scoring the game-winning goal in the overtime period against Sioux Falls. The USHL veteran also added an assist earlier in the game to give him two points for the evening.
GOALIE GO-ROUND: The Ice recently finalized the paperwork to bring in goaltender Brian Mahoney-Wilson from Boston, MA. The goaltender began this season with the Burnaby Express of the British Columbia Junior Hockey League and was a 2004 NHL Draft Pick of the San Jose Sharks. He is also the nephew of Ron Wilson, who is the Head Coach of the Sharks.
PLAYER NOTES: Mike Phillippi leads the squad with a +5 rating...Brian Gifford has five points (2G,3A) and a +3 rating in his past five outings...Czech native Michal Borovansky has lit up the stat sheet with seven points (2G,5A) since his return to the Ice...Garrett Roe has been whistled for a penalty in five straight games...Forward Jay Sprague had his first multi-goal game of the season in Friday's win.
TEAM NOTES: The Ice tied a team season-high with 10 assists in Friday night's win...The team continues to lead the USHL in overall power play production with a .220 mark (36-164)...The Indiana defense killed off all six Sioux Falls power play opportunities on Saturday night.
