Ice Roster Set for Season Opener

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Indianapolis Ice welcomes the Shreveport Mudbugs to town for the first game of the 2003/2004 regular season on Saturday night. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m. from the Pepsi Coliseum.
Reigning CHL Coach of the Year Ken McRae looks to improve upon last season's success which included a Northern Conference Regular Season Title, Northern Conference Finals playoff appearance and an impressive overall record of 39-16-9.
Up front, the Ice returns two of the top forwards from last year's squad in Jason Baird and Jared Dumba. Baird was second on the team in scoring last season with 70 points (26G, 44A), while Dumba led the team in goals (32) and ranked fourth in points (54).
The Ice will compliment their strong offensive attack with a powerful blueline assault headed by the quartet of Bernie John, Mario Doyon, Ryan Aikia, and Nate Elliott. John is the club's all-time leading scorer among defensemen (277 points), while the former NHL'er Doyon returns to the "States" after playing the last few seasons in an Elite German league. Aikia and Elliott return to stymie the opponents' top forward lines.
The goaltending chores rest in the glove of Jeff Sanger, a player the Ice received from Norfolk (AHL) as part of the team's affiliation agreement with the Chicago Blackhawks and Norfolk. Sanger is a former star netminder from Colorado College and won 21 games in his pro debut last year with Reading (ECHL) and Manchester (AHL).
