Cranbrook, B.C. - The Kootenay ICE (8-24-5-1) ring in the New Year with a date against the Victoria Royals (17-14-1-0) at Western Financial Place on Monday, December 31.
Puck drop is scheduled for 4 p.m. MT.

The ICE are coming off of an 8-4 loss to the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Saturday, December 29. The ICE received goals from Jaeger White, Jakin Smallwood, Cole Muir and Brad Ginnell. White and Peyton Krebs recorded three points in the game. Both ICE goaltenders saw action with Duncan McGovern stopping 17-of-24 shots in 40 minutes of work and Jesse Makaj blocking 6-of-7 in the third period. The Hurricanes got goals from Jake Leschyshyn (x3), Dylan Cozens (x2), Danila Palivko, Calen Addison and Nick Henry. The ICE outshot the 'Canes 37-31. They went 3-for-8 on the power play, 0-for-3 on the penalty kill and won 35-of-77 face-offs.
The ICE have amassed 22 points this season, which is good for sixth in the Central Division and 11th in the Eastern Conference.
The ICE have a home record of 6-13-2-0.

The Victoria Royals visit the Kootenay ICE for the first and only time this season on Monday, December 31. Puck drop is scheduled for 4 p.m. MT. The Royals haven't visited Cranbrook and Western Financial Place since February 18, 2017, in what turned out to be a 4-1 victory for the visitors. Currently, the Royals are on a six-game road trip where they face every team in the Central Division. The road trip lasts for nine days. The Royals are 1-1-0-0 on that road trip so far. Heading into Monday's game, the Royals are third in the B.C. Division and 6th in the Western Conference.
The Royals are coming off of a 4-2 loss to the Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday, December 29. The Royals received two goals from Ty Yoder, while Brandon Cutler and Mitchell Prowse picked up the assists. Goaltender Griffen Outhouse stopped 26-of-29 shots that came his way. The Royals were outshot 30-23. They went 0-for-1 on the power play, 3-for-4 on the penalty kill and won 38-of-71 face-offs.
The Royals have collected 35 points this season, which is good for third in the B.C. Division and sixth in the Western Conference.

HEAD TO HEAD
This is the first and only meeting of the season between the ICE and the Royals. Monday's game marks the first time the Royals have played in Cranbrook since February 18, 2017, in what turned out to be a 4-1 victory for the visitors. The last time these two teams played was on December 8, 2017 in Victoria.
The ICE are 0-3-0-0 in the last three games against the Royals.
