Ice Muskies Fall 8-7 In Shootout

Madison Ice Muskies News Release
Despite falling 8-7 to the Evansville Icemen in a shootout Friday night at Hartmeyer Ice Arena, the first game in Ice Muskies history was no doubt a success.
Over 750 fans witnessed 14 goals, 74 shots on goal, a hat trick and an eight round shootout before Dustin Majewski finally notched the game winner for the Icemen.
"When you get to that shootout, it almost makes your heart stop," Ice Muskies head coach Rod Davidson said. "Everyone is on their feet, the fans are on edge, the bench is stressed, and you are trying to figure out who to put in next. And our goaltender just kept us in there with some big saves."
Ice Muskies goaltender Nick Niedert made seven consecutive saves in the shootout before giving up the clinching goal to Majewski. Unfortunately, Mario Passarelli made eight consecutive saves and preserved the Evansville win when he stopped Brad Jones' rebuttal attempt in the eighth round.
But the excitement level could not have been higher at Hartmeyer Ice Arena when Ice Muskies defenseman David Ulm tied the game with just under two minutes left in regulation on a shot from the blue line. Passarelli was caught off guard and watched the puck go over his left shoulder to tie the game at seven.
"What do you say? I think the people went home entertained and think they'll be back tomorrow," Davidson said.
Both teams registered two shots on goal in a scoreless overtime before the game went to a shootout.
Ryan Ford led the Icemen with three goals. He registered a hat trick just 1:30 into the second period, but was held scoreless the rest of the night.
The Ice Muskies will host Evansville at 6:30 p.m. Saturday night at Hartmeyer Ice Arena in the second game of the two game set.
