Madison Ice Muskies News Release
DYER, Ind. - As they have done so many times before, the Ice Muskies came back from a two-goal deficit to force overtime, but their effort fell short in the shootout as the Chi-town Shooters won 3-2 Saturday night.
After a Mike Ruberto goal gave the Shooters a 1-0 lead in the first period, Ryan Gervais' league-leading ninth goal of the season put Chi-town up 2-0 at the 16:39 mark of the second period.
That's when the Ice Muskies' offense woke up. Just 1:20 later, Solomon McCann hit Cameron Sault on a beautiful head-man pass giving Sault a 1-on-1 with Chi-town goaltender Rob Mattison. The Ice Muskies winger beat Mattison over the right shoulder to bring Madison within one.
The defensive battle continued for most of the game until Ice Muskies defenseman Mike Thomson buried a power play goal with only 1:54 remaining in the game.
Madison had a 4-on-3 advantage for the last 95 seconds of the overtime period, but it could not convert. After Andy Cripps and Cameron Sault both missed their shots in the shootout, Jim Stussy beat Nick Neidert to put the Shooters on the board and Mattison stopped Thomson's attempt to give Chi-town the win.
Ice Muskies goaltender Nick Neidert had a stellar night, stopping 48 of 50 shots and almost single-handedly keeping Madison in the game.
The Ice Muskies will return to Dyer, Ind. tomorrow at 3:20 to wrap up their three-game road trip. After beating Detroit 3-2 Friday night and falling in the shootout Saturday, Madison has taken three of four possible points thus far on the trip.
