Keystone Ice Miners News Release

FLINT, MI - In what was more than likely the last ever game for the Michigan Warriors at Perani Arena, the home town team went out on a high note, defeating the Keystone Ice Miners 2-1 on Sunday afternoon and completing a three game weekend sweep. The Warriors jumped into fifth place in the North Division, still five points behind the Johnstown Tomahawks who hold two games in hand on them. The Ice Miners failed to clinch a playoff spot and still need two wins or one win and a Michigan loss to secure a berth.

For the second time in three games, Michigan opened the scoring when Derek Frentz put one past Alex Blankenburg just 1:49 into the game, set up by Garrison Sanipass and Peter Bates. Shots were a heavy 14-13 Ice Miners in the first but the Frentz goal was the only one. The Ice Miners tied the game 3:13 into the 2nd period when Garrett Hallford scored his third goal in four games with an assist to Kelly O'Brien. The score was knotted at one through two periods.

Peter Bates, who had two goals, including the game-winner on Saturday, would net another game winning goal on Sunday as his shot at 4:19 of the third snuck its way past Blankenburg to make the score 2-1 Michigan. Keystone mustered only 7 third period shots and couldn't find the equalizer. Chase Munroe picked up his first win as a Warrior, stopping 37 of 38 shots. Munroe becomes the fourth different Warriors goaltender to defeat Keystone this season as Michigan took a 6-4 season series edge with two games remaining at the Ice Mine on March 20th and 21st.

The Ice Miners travel to Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday and Sunday for a pair of games against the Soo Eagles who they currently trail by one point for 2nd place in the North Division and are likely to be their first round playoff opponent. The Ice Miners and Eagles will complete the final 12:42 of the suspended game from February 7th that Soo leads 2-1, on Friday at 7:30 PM. The regularly scheduled game will immedietly follow. All the action can be found on FASTHockey.com, with the AWAY feed carrying the Keystone broadcast.
