Keystone Ice Miners News Release
JOHNSTOWN, PA - The Ice Miners only lead Friday night was when the game was over, but that is all they needed to pick up a 4-3 win in Johnstown in the first of three straight games against the Tomahawks. Keystone rallied from down 2-0 and 3-2 to prevail 4-3 in a shootout.
Johnstown dominated the opening period, outshooting the Ice Miners 14-4 and leading 2-0. Zach Zech opened the scoring at 5:58 taking a pass from Tanner Barnes and sliding in his fourth goal of the season. Cam Bleck also assisted. Trevor Recktenwald added a goal at 12:17 just after a powerplay had ended, as he was set up by Casey Linkenheld and Joe Drabin.
When the 2nd period began, it didn't take Keystone long to even the score. Jon Hall cut the lead in half just 1:08 into the frame on a wraparound goal with an assist to Matt Jones and Michael Maiden knotted the score at 3:13, set up by Joey Sofo. The Tomahawks regained the lead on a controversial goal scored in the final second of the period. Recktenwald got a shot past Alex Blankenburg just as time expired and after convening, the officials ruled it a goal. Linkenheld and Drabin both assisted once again.
In the 3rd period, the Ice Miners battled back again to tie it when Brendan Jaquay scored a powerplay goal, cleaning up a Keenan Sabatini shot. It was Jaquay's 8th of the season and 5th in the last 5 games. After a scoreless overtime, Joey Sofo scored in the 5th round before Alex Blankenburg stopped Cam Bleck to complete a perfect shootout effort in goal. Blankenburg made 24 saves in regulation and overtime for his 10th win.
Keystone's next game is next Friday, again in Johnstown before the Ice Miners and Tomahawks finish a home and home at the Ice Mine on January 17th.
