November 9, 2013 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Indiana Ice News Release
A Saturday night crowd of 4,714, witnessed Indiana's dormant home power-play come to life during "Military Appreciation Night" at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, as the Ice dominated the Chicago Steel from start to finish with a 4-1 victory.
The victory finally gets Indiana over the .500 mark as they are now 5-4-3 on the new season.
Austin Kosack opened the festivities with his second goal of the year at the 14:16 mark of the first when he recorded his second goal of the campaign. Jason Salvaggio and Patrick Newell assisted on what was to be the first of three Indy power-play goals.
Second stanza scoring started with Ice captain Tyler Pham as the beneficiary of a juicy rebound left by Chicago net-minder Chris Nell after denying Aidan Muir a breakaway goal at the 6:46 mark. The goal was Pham's second of the year. Muir and Brian Pinho were awarded the helpers.
The Ice power-play struck again at the 16:20 mark as Scott Conway netted his team-leading 6th goal of the year following a scramble in front of the Steel net. Denis Smirnov and Jacob Pritchard earned assists on the Ice third goal.
Danny Fetzer ruined Jason Pawloski's bid for his first clean sheet as Chicago capitalized on an Ice mix-up, resulting in a 2-on-1 shorthanded breakaway at 5:44 of the final period.
Play turned rough a few minutes later when the Ice's Joe Chitwood was thrown into the board on an illegal check by Chicago's Patrick Polino. The play saw Polino get ejected. Also ejected was Steel head-coach Scott McConnell.
The Ice used this 5-on-3 advantage to close out the scoring as Muir was finally able to bury one of his 9 shots on goal off a rebound from a Vince Pedrie's shot from the blueline. Conway was also awarded an assist.
Indy wraps up their seven-game home stretch next weekend with a Friday-Saturday double header against the Sioux City Musketeers from Pan Am Pavilion. The puck is set to drop for both contests at 7:05 pm.
