Ice Home Saturday at Fieldhouse

October 14, 2013 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Indiana Ice News Release

EXTENDED ENGAGEMENT: Extra innings wasn't enough to settle Saturday's contest with the Youngstown Phantoms as Indy rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the second period to fall to Youngstown 4-3 in an eight-round shootout. Vince Pedrie, Timothy Shoup and Scott Conway all recorded goals in the contest while Samu Perhonen and Jason Pawloski split time in net.

HOMECOMING: Indy's roster featured a pair of Carmel, IN natives on Saturday as Michael Preston and Joe Chitwood both suited up against the Youngstown Phantoms. Preston started his career with the Indianapolis Racers program before moving on to Culver Academy in Northern Indiana. Chitwood captained the 2013 NAPHL Indiana Jr. Ice U18 program last season.

PICKING RIGHT UP: Patrick Newell has picked up exactly where he left off last year as the Thousand Oaks, CA-native is riding a four-game point streak and a three-game assist streak. After joining the squad in early February 2013, Newell has recorded points in 16 of his 25 games dating back to last season.

SHOOTOUT AT OK CORRAL: Saturday's eight-round shootout was tied for the third longest shootout in Ice history. October has a history of long contests for Indy as the two longest shootouts (nine rounds) both occurred in this particular month. On October 13, 2007, the Ohio Jr. Blue Jackets tied the contest at 5-5 with 54 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime before falling 6-5. On October 27, 2006, Indy rallied from a 2-0 first period deficit before falling 3-2 to the Sioux City Musketeers.

HIRED GUNS: Indy's offense has been one of the busiest in the USHL, recording 214 shots in six games this season. The Ice's 35.67 shots per game is good for second in the league while Indy has held opponents to the fourth lowest shots per game totals (26.33).
