HAUNTED HOUSE: The Ice lost their third consecutive game on Saturday as the Youngstown Phantoms scored three goals in both the second and third periods in route to a 6-3 victory from Pepsi Coliseum. Brian Ferlin, Daniil Tarasov and Adam Erne had markers for Indiana, while Jon Gillies made 30 saves in net.

THE COLOR GOLD: Associate head coach Justin Lyle, director of team services Darrin Flinchem, defenseman Nick Mattson and goaltender Casey DeSmith return to Indy this week with gold medals around their necks after Team USA went 5-0 at the World Junior A Challenge in Penticton, BC. The U.S earned the gold with a 6-4 win over Canada West in Sunday's final as Mattson handed out an assist and DeSmith was the winning goaltender after entering the game in the second period when the Americans were down 4-2. Flinchem (3) and Mattson (2) are now multiple gold medal winners, while Lyle and DeSmith take home gold for the first time.

GACEK RETURNS: The Ice got some needed offense back on Saturday with the return of promising forward Alex Gacek. Gacek missed the first month due to injury and had an assist in his Indy debut against Youngstown. The Massachusetts native erupted offensively in his first year of juniors last year as he amassed 68 points (38G, 30A) in 48 games as a member of the Jr. Monarchs of the EJHL.

PLAYER NOTES: Daniil Tarasov has a goal in each of his last two games...Brian Ferlin's goal at 1:01 of the first on Saturday was the fastest goal from the start of the game this year...Defensemen Ian Spencer (+3) and Tim Smith (+2) combined to go (+5) in Saturday's loss.

TEAM NOTES: The Ice is just 2-5-1 against their Eastern Conference foes...Indy is 0-3-0 against Cedar Rapids and Chicago so far this year...The Ice has outscored opponents 14-8 in the first, but has been outscored 27-21 in the second and third periods.

COLLEGE ACCOLADES: Cody Reichard (05-07) pitched a 17-save shutout and Bryon Paulazzo (09-10) had two assists in Miami's 4-0 shutout of Alaska on Friday...Torey Krug (08-09) had a goal and an assist in Michigan State's 4-0 win over Ohio State on Saturday...Nick Bailen (05-08, 09-10) scored the game-winner in overtime to go along with two assists in RPI's 4-3 win over Union on Saturday...Taylor Boldt (08-10) scored his first collegiate goal with Dartmouth over the weekend.
