Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
PENSACOLA, FL. (July 17, 2014) - The back-to-back SPHL champions, Pensacola Ice Flyers, are proud to announce the return of Head Coach and SPHL Coach of the Year, Rod Aldoff, for the 2014-15 season.
"It is with great honor and excitement that I'm returning to Pensacola for another year of Ice Flyers hockey," Aldoff commented. "As a coach, I feel very privileged to work with such a great team and organization. I'm very excited to get back behind the bench and continue our success from last season and build toward another championship season."
"Rod came very highly recommended as a coach and as a person," Ice Flyers owner Greg Harris stated. "Our goal was to repeat as champions and Rod not only accomplished that feat, but he assembled a phenomenal cast of players that were pros on the ice and pros off the ice. He and his team represented the Ice Flyers, Escambia County, the city of Pensacola and the surrounding area with nothing but class."
Under the leadership of Aldoff, his 2013-14 Ice Flyers had one of the best seasons, if not the best season, the SPHL has seen in its 10 successful seasons, and became only the second SPHL team to win back-to-back championships. He also led the Ice Flyers to the organization's first regular season title in its five seasons.
The regular season records set by his team includes most points, highest winning percentage, most wins, most road wins, longest winning streak, longest road winning streak and most consecutive games without a regulation loss, and tied the record for fewest regulation losses and fewest regulation road losses.
Aldoff's team tied the playoff records for most finals series appearances, highest road winning percentage, most goals in a playoff game, and set the playoff records for most goals in a two-game series and largest winning percentage.
After winning the SPHL Coach of the Year honors in his rookie season behind the bench, Aldoff is tuning up for his sophomore campaign and has begun signing players to his 2014-15 Ice Flyers which the team will begin announcing next week.
"It was an honor to witness the accomplishments of our team last season. I'm looking forward to having Rod back for another successful season and can't wait to see the talent he puts together on the ice this coming season," Harris commented.
"The commitment from Greg and the rest of our front office and hockey staff is second to none," Aldoff added. "I look forward to getting back to the Hangar with all our great fans and start another chapter in Ice Flyers history."
