
Ice Flyers lose in OT

Pensacola, Fla. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers met the Fayetteville FireAntz tonight at the Pensacola Bay Center in their first meeting of the season. The Ice Flyers were looking to rebound after a tough, one-goal loss last week, while the FireAntz were determined to continue their winning streak. The FireAntz ended up winning the game 4-3 in overtime, even though Pensacola had more shots on goal in the game, outshooting Fayetteville 35-27.
The first period got off to a swift start of hard-hitting action as both teams battle hard to score the first goal, but it was the FireAntz Justin Faryna who scored the first goal of the game. Building off the momentum of the first goal, the FireAntz Brandon Richardson buried puck past Ice Flyers' goalie Steve Christie to put his team up 2-0..
About seven minutes into the second frame, Ice Flyers' defenseman Tyler Soehner capitalized on a powerplay opportunity that brought the Ice Flyers one goal away from tying the FireAntz. A few minutes later, the Ice Flyers' Ryan Raven used the drive of that earlier goal by his teammate to get the puck past FireAntz goalie Marco Emondto tie the score.
The third period started with the score tied at 2 with the both teams looking to go up by one goal. The Fayetteville FireAntz Tristin Llewellyn ended up scoring on Christie with just under six minutes left, putting the FireAntz in a position to win. But three minutes later, Ice Flyers' captain Leo Thomas got his team back in the game with an unassisted goal that tied the score.
Going into overtime the Ice Flyers were coming off of the momentum of Thomas tying the score and the FireAntz had the record on being undefeated pushing them to get the win. Only two minutes into overtime, it was the FireAntz John Clewlow that was able to put a shot high above Christie's glove hand and into the top corner of the net to win the game 4-3.
Fayetteville went 0 for 3 on the power play and Pensacola scored twice on four power play opportunities.
The Fayetteville FireAntz hit the road and will play the Huntsville Havoc on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. The Ice Flyers will also be playing the road in Biloxi, MS as the play the Mississippi Surge on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 7:05 p.m.
