Augusta RiverHawks News Release

Augusta, GA-- With their last game proving to be quite the nail-bitter as the RiverHawks lost in the final seconds of overtime to Knoxville at home, the two teams met again on Friday night, but this time in the home of the Ice Bears.

Augusta got out to an early 1-0 lead with a goal from Taylor McReynolds, but the Team was plagued by penalties in the first period, being forced to kill three. The 'Hawks were successful in all but one, as Berkley Scott got on the board for the Ice Bears at 16:50. RiverHawks' netminder, BJ O'Brien, was continually tested, as he faced a barrage of 14 shots in the period. Heading into the the second, the teams were knotted 1-1.

Less than two minutes into the second, Knoxville would take the lead with a shot from Shaun Arvai. In what seemed to be the opposite of the first period, Knoxville would be charged with three penalties, giving the number two powerplay squad in the League prime opportunities to take advantage. However, the Ice Bears proved to be lucrative in their penalty-killing abilities and denied Augusta's advances. With just over three minutes left in the period, Knoxville struck again with a redirected shot to go up 3-1 over the 'Hawks. Knoxville's goal would be answered quickly as newcomer Chris Waterstradt beat Connor Toomey with the help of Branden Kosolofsky and Matt Puntureri to close the gap to 3-2 heading into the final period of regulation.

At 7:08 of the third, the RiverHawks were awarded another man-advantage on a slashing penalty from Knoxville's Ricky Helmbrecht. However, their powerplay conversion woes would continue as the Ice Bears successfully turned away the RiverHawks' chances. Augusta would find themselves once again on the penalty-killing side of things, as the Ice Bears would get a 5-on-3 powerplay opportunity at 5:56. The RiverHawks proved stronger, effectively extinguishing the Ice Bears' efforts to go up by two. Augusta returned to full-strength with just over three minutes remaining. The equality would not last for long. Pat Schafer was called for an interference penalty second after, putting the RiverHawks on yet another disadvantage. With a successful penalty kill, Augusta would have only seconds remaining in regulation to tie the contest, 3-3. However, the Ice Bears converted on their opportunity, giving them a 4-2 lead with just over a minute left. The RiverHawks were unable to add any additional tallies to their total. Final score, 4-2 Knoxville.

RiverHawks' netminder, BJ O'Brien faced a total of 34 shots. Collecting points for the 'Hawks were: Waterstradt, Megginson, McReynolds, Puntureri, and Kosolofsky.
