Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

MACON, Ga. -  The Pensacola Ice Flyers (26-20-8) made their last regular season trip into the Macon Coliseum a good one as they defeated the first-place Macon Mayhem (35-13-6) by a score of 4-1 on Sunday afternoon.

The Mayhem scored first when defenseman Nick Grasso netted his seventh goal of the season with 10:46 left in the first period. The Ice Flyers tied it up when Aaron Clarke found Ken Neil with a long pass and Neil pushed the puck by Macon goalie Jordan Ruby's left leg. Clarke and Louis Belisle had the assists on the goal scored with 6:01 left in the first. Clarke gave the Ice Flyers the 2-1 lead when Neil, while falling from being shoved, backhanded a pass to Clarke and Clarke one-timed it into the net. Evan Moore had the other assist and the goal came with just 19 seconds remaining in the opening frame.

The Ice Flyers doubled their lead when Jesse Stoughton easily put in a rebound of a Stephen Hrehoriak shot 5:04 into the second period. Hrehoriak and Massimo Lamacchia were credited with the assists on the goal. Right off an Ice Flyers offensive zone faceoff, Hrehoriak scooped up the loose puck and fires it past Ruby to make it 4-1 with 8:36 left in the second period. Lamacchia and Stoughton were credited with assists on what proved to be the game's last goal.

Matt Zenzola stopped all but one of Macon's 29 shots on goal to pick up his second win in less than 24 hours and 16th of the season.

The Ice Flyers will conclude the 2016-17 regular season with a couple of games on the road the team makes their one and only trip to Knoxville, Tenn., to face the Knoxville Ice Bears inside the Knoxville Civic Coliseum on Friday, April 7, and Saturday, April 8. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Central Time both nights.
