Ice Flyers Add 3-Time SPHL Champ Gates as Assistant Coach

PENSACOLA, FL. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers announced today that they have hired former Ice Flyer defenseman and three-time SPHL champion Jeremy Gates as Assistant Coach for the 2018-19 Season.

"I'm extremely excited to have Jeremy as my assistant coach. He had great success as a player, always playing hard and with a lot of passion for the game," Head Coach Rod Aldoff said, "I know he will bring that same passion and knowledge he has gained to our team."

"I am very grateful for this opportunity presented to me," Gates added, "Being familiar with the organization played a huge factor in my decision."

"This is an exciting day in the Ice Flyers organization and for our fans," Ice Flyers Owner Greg Harris commented. "Rod and I know what we are going to get with Jeremy. He knows the organization and our expectations and commitment to success and excellence on and off the ice, so we felt it would be a great fit. His approach to and respect for the game made him a great competitor, and that contributed to the success he had.

Gates is no stranger to the game or the Ice Flyers. He spent time in Pensacola on and off for five seasons and he is one of three players to have won all three championships with the Ice Flyers. Gates was a premier defenseman playing in 95 SPHL regular season games where he totaled 60 points and 148 penalty minutes. He also added 15 points in the playoffs in 27 games for Pensacola. During his pro career, he also spent time up in the ECHL and CHL on callups where he played for the Fort Wayne Komets, Rapid City Rush,Cincinnati Cyclones and Bloomington Blaze.

"Greg and Rod are high caliber hockey professionals to be working with. Pairing that with the great community and fans of Pensacola makes me excited for my new journey of sharing my passion for hockey and success with everyone involved with the Ice Flyers," Gates stated.

"He has wanted to be a pro coach and has worked hard away from the game to educate himself in any way that he can which shows his dedication to coaching and the game of hockey. I'm extremely excited for Jeremy and our team as we all will push every day to get better and bring the SPHL championship back home to Pensacola," Aldoff concluded.

"I'm looking forward to him developing as a coach and contributing to the development of our players. Jeremy knows the commitment and sacrifices it takes on and off the ice to be a champion. He will be a tremendous asset to our organization and the Pensacola community and we're ecstatic to have him back with the Ice Flyers in his new role."
