Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
The Indiana Ice overcame a bus breakdown in the Quad Cities, and then the Black Hawks when they arrived in Waterloo, to claim a 3-2 victory Friday.
In spite of arriving nearly an hour late due to their travel trouble, the visitors survived three first period Black Hawks power plays and took a 1-0 lead into the intermission. The lone goal was scored at 14:36 of the frame when Christian Hilbrich found a crease in Eamon McAdam's pads as the Hawks' goalie slid from right to left.
The Ice added to their lead at 13:39 of the second when Waterloo could not snuff out a three-on-two rush; the puck made it to the side of the net and was stuffed in by Emil Romig. Exactly four minutes later, a faceoff win created an opportunity for Matthew Krug to send a shot from the left point through traffic to the top opposite corner of the net past McAdam who could not field it through the traffic in front of him.
Waterloo's offense came in a twelve second spurt during the middle stages of the third period. Vince Hinostroza sent a shot from the left wing circle past the right skate of a screened Dalton Izyk at 7:35. Hinostroza won the ensuing faceoff before Scott MacDonald set off a wild scramble in the goalmouth with a pass from behind the Indiana net, eventually resulting in a goal for Eddie Wittchow. The Ice spent their timeout immediately and turned away the rest of Waterloo's chances as the Hawks outshot their guests 29-21 for the game.
The Hawks are at home again Saturday. Good seats still remain for the 7:05 Cowbell Cup rivalry matchup against the Dubuque Fighting Saints.
