Knoxville Ice Bears News Release

Knoxville, TN - (September 23, 2014) Knoxville Ice Bears announced today that the club has re-signed Captain David Segal for the upcoming season.

Segal, (5'10, 170 Ibs.), a forward from Vancouver, Canada, will be starting his 7th season playing for the Ice Bears. Before starting his professional career with the Ice Bears, Segal played junior hockey in (BCHL) British Columbia Hockey League with the Langley Hornets and the Melfort Mustangs in the (SJHL) Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

Segal played one season with the Ice Bears in 2006-07, before moving to the Muskegon Fury in the International Hockey League (IHL) for 2007-08 season. After a one year hiatus from hockey in 2008-09, Segal then returned back to Knoxville.

In Segal's six seasons with the Ice Bears, he has played in 240 regular season games and 23 playoff games and has accumulated 140 points (83 G, 57 P) for the club. Segal is also the last player to have been teammates with Head Coach Mike Craigen

"I'm really looking forward to being back on the ice and with the guys. Summer has been a nice break but it is time to get back out there and compete for another championship in Knoxville," said Segal.

Additionally, Segal is the all-time leader in penalty minutes for the club and the SPHL. Last season, Segal had accumulated 230 penalty minutes in regular season play. In six seasons for the Ice Bears, Segal has collected 1,399 penalties minutes.

"It's always a boost to be able to add your captain back into the mix this late in the summer. David is a great teammate and an intense competitor who will once again be at the center of the Ice Bear's identity on the ice," said Head Coach Mike Craigen.

Last season, Segal played in 41 games and collected 18 points (12 G, 6 A) while serving as Co-Captain.
