Knoxville Ice Bears News Release
Knoxville, TN - The Knoxville Ice Bears returned to the Civic Coliseum tonight after a season-opening win last week. The Ice Bears handed the Fayetteville FireAntz their third consecutive loss with a 6-2 defeat.
A dominating performance from Ice Bears favorites Kevin Swider, Emery Olauson and Mark Van Vliet who led Knoxville to a resounding victory. The trio combined for 13 points.
Olauson ignited the scoreboard 13 minutes into the first period with assistance from team captain Swider to bring the Ice Bears to an early lead. Just 1 minute and 23 seconds later Swider and Olauson fed the puck to Van Vliet who wristed the puck past Fayetteville goalie Matt Hache.
Swider notched his second goal of the season and the last of the first period at 16:08 with assists from Van Vliet and Berkley Scott. The Ice Bears skated into the first intermission leading 3-0 and dominating shots on goal 14 to 6.
The powerhouse continued their dominance in the second period 7:22 minutes in when Hache was sitting on the left of the goal and Olauson snapped the puck into an open net for his second goal of the game. Swider and Van Vliet assisted the goal.
After the 4-0 lead, Fayetteville benched Hache and brought in goalie Jeff Rose in relief. Swider was next to earn his second goal of the game with assistance from Olauson and Jeremy Klaver.
Fayetteville finally lit the scoreboard with a goal by Bobby Reed. But Ice Bears' goalie Bryan Hince held off the FireAntz through 3-on-5 and 4-on-5 play to finish out the second period leading 5-1.
Fayetteville scored their final goal at the start of the third period on a power play. The Ice Bears answered with a final goal 7.53 minutes in. Hince and Van Vliet moved the puck to Scott who maneuvered it into the net for his first goal of the season.
