Knoxville Ice Bears News Release
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - When you're the leading scorer for all of the defenseman in your league, you can't help but get noticed. Ice Bears defenseman Alex Alepin was named Defenseman of the Year for the South East Hockey League by votes from the SEHL head coaches, team front office personnel and media representatives from each team.
Alepin, a native of Montreal, Quebec, led the defenseman in scoring with 13 goals and on the season has tallied 30 points (13 goals and 20 assists). In addition to being a solid defenseman, Alepin has also served as the team's enforcer amassing over 200 penalty minutes (205) in just 40 games.
"Alex was at the top of my recruiting list because he is such a versatile player," said Ice Bears Head Coach Jim Bermingham. "He's a high energy player and gives 110 percent very night. He can play up or back and he's not afraid to mix it up with anyone in the league."
Alepin, who is in his eighth professional season and his fifth in Knoxville, has also served this season as one of the team's two alternate captains.
