Austin Ice Bats News Release

(Austin, TX) - Despite the family reunion on Sunday at Chaparral Ice Arena, the Ice Bats were the ones who walked away all smiles as they cruised to their third win in a row, and their sixth in their last seven games. The Bats welcomed Ted Vandermeer's brother Bill, and the Gorillas, to Austin with a five goal outburst and Miguel Beaudry set a new season high making 46 saves. The final score was 5-1, Ice Bats.

Ted Vandermeer got the scoring started for Austin with his ninth of the season. Aaron Wilson and Mike Bartlett tallied the assists. That was the only goal scored, and it was 1-0 after the first.

In the second period Vandermeer continued to pour it on banging home his 10th goal of the season, and second of the game, thanks to a Darryl McArthur pass. Next was John Ronan who would put one on the board with less than a minute remaining in the period. RG Flath and Taylor Raszka added the helpers on Ronan's 11th of the year. At the end of two periods, it was 3-0, Ice Bats.

In the third, Amarillo finally found the score sheet thanks to a David Nimmo goal, but after that it was all Ice Bats. Jason Tessier used a power play opportunity to score his ninth of the season. Bartlett and Vandermeer had the assists. Then Jamie Thompson added another goal to make the score 5-1, Ice Bats. Bartlett and Vandermeer again added the assists. It was Thompson's first game back after missing the last two, nursing injuries.

Next up for the Bats is a Tuesday road game against Corpus Christi at the American Bank Center. The game can be heard locally on 1530 ESPN Austin and espnaustin.com. The puck drops at 7:05 PM. The Ice Bats trail Corpus Christi by eight points for the final playoff spot in the Southern Conference. Three times this season both teams have gone to a shootout to decide a winner.

The Ice Bats are the AA Affiliate for the NHL's Minnesota Wild and the AHL's Houston Aeros (AAA). The team is currently playing its 12th season in Austin. Single game tickets and mini-plans are available by calling 512-927-7825 or visiting icebats.com.
