Austin Ice Bats News Release

The Austin Ice Bats of the Central Hockey League today announced additions to the "Budweiser True Music Concert Series," a series of concerts to take place after Ice Bats home games this season. All shows are included with the price of an Ice Bats game ticket.

The four additions include hard-edged rock band "The Burden Brothers," Latin recording artists "Los Palominos," local rockers "Wideawake," and country rockers The Michael Klein Band. (An updated schedule of the concert series is attached to this release).

Having just opened for Willie Nelson in early October, The Michael Klein Band appears following the Ice Bats game on Friday, November 19th. Labeling itself "alternative country," the four-piece Fort Worth-based band recently visited "Ground Zero," site of the World Trade Center Towers in New York City. There, they performed a special September 11th tribute to the survivors of 9/11, and distributed copies of their CD single, "9/11 Then and Now" at area fire houses, police stations and hospitals. The band has since returned to tour in Texas and Oklahoma in support of their debut CD "Labor of Love."

On Sunday, November 21st, Latin recording artists "Los Palominos" will perform. The group won Grammy Awards in 1999 and 2000, and is currently touring Mexico and South Texas in support of their latest release, "Caniones de la Rockola." Despite their success, "Los Palominos" haven't forgotten their roots-- headlining a yearly Labor Day weekend concert, "Palomino Fest," the group raises money for student scholarships in their hometown of Uvalde, Texas.

Another Texas-based band that has exploded in popularity, "The Burden Brothers" play Saturday, December 11th. Initially formed as an internet-only project by ex-Toadies vocalist and acclaimed drummer Taz Bentley, the band generated massive radio airplay with the release of their debut album, "Buried In Your Black Heart." With that project taking off on independent label Kirtland Records, the hard rocking five-piece band was an instant hit from their first public show, at the 2002 "South By Southwest" Music Festival. While pushing the decibels, the group also displays an admiration for the history of rock ‘n roll. Having just released a live concert DVD as well, "The Burden Brothers" are now spending the fall on a nationwide tour that takes them to both coasts, and everywhere in between twice.

Named "Best Pop Band" at the 2004 Austin Music Awards, "Wideawake" has been added to the series schedule for Friday, February 4th. The title track of the band's newest album, "Bigger Than Ourselves" was recently featured on the 100th episode of TV's "Dawson's Creek." The band was also honored at one of their recent Austin appearances with a visit from Sheryl Crow, who joined the group in performing onstage. "Wideawake" is currently on tour throughout the south, highlighting the Dallas and Austin markets.

The "Budweiser True Music Concert Series" got off to a rousing note with a performance from country artist Rick Trevino after the Ice Bats' Opening Night win on October 22nd. The concert line-up also features country act Kevin Fowler, Latin-based rockers "Vallejo" and "Del Castillo," and area rock band "Pushmonkey."

After completion of a five game road swing, the Ice Bats return to the Travis County Expo Center for games on November 12th and 13th. Friday, November 12th is Capital Metro "Antenna Puck" Night, with free antenna pucks to go to 5,000 fans. The UT men's hockey team will face Southern Methodist University after the Ice Bats game.

Saturday, November 13th is Armed Forces Appreciation Night, and the Ice Bats will wear special game jerseys to honor America's servicemen and women. SportClips will be on hand to provide haircuts, and anyone who receives a "military cut" will pick up a free ticket to a future home game. Also, the UT hockey team faces SMU starting at 4:45pm, and after the game, the "Bud True Music Concert Series" continues with a free post-game concert from "Vallejo."

Season tickets and corporate partnerships are still available for the new season. Once again, free membership to the "Crown Lounge at the Belfry" is included with all full-season packages, and free parking with all full-season and 16-game ticket plans.
