Indiana Ice News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Another Indiana Ice alum joined the prestigious list of former Icemen to sign NHL contracts as Brian Ferlin signed an entry-level contract with the Boston Bruins. Ferlin was selected by the 2012 Stanley Cup Champions with the 121st overall pick in the 2011 NHL Draft.
Ferlin is the third Indiana alum to sign an NHL contract this month after Nic Dowd (Los Angeles Kings) and Adam Erne (Tampa Bay Lightning) signed pro contracts in early April. Dowd was selected by the Kings in the 2009 NHL Draft while Erne was picked by the Lightning in 2012.
In three seasons with the Cornell University Big Red, Ferlin recorded 72 points (31G, 41A) in 92 games. He made an immediate impact on the Big Red roster, earning ECAC All-Rookie honors while being named the league's Rookie of the Year. He was also awarded Ivy League Rookie of the Year honors in addition to being named to the All-Ivy League Second Team in his freshman season.
Ferlin finished his junior hockey career as a two-year member of the Ice from 2009-11. The Jacksonville, FL native logged 89 points (31G, 58A) in 112 games with Indy. He ranked second on the team in assists (48) and third in points (73) during the 2010-2011 season as a member of the infamous "yellow line" featuring Blake Coleman (Miami) and Daniil Tarasov (Worcester-AHL). The trio finished first, second and third in the league in scoring.
Joining Clark Cup Champion Torey Krug (2008-09) in the Bruins' organization, Ferlin could make his professional debut with either Boston or their top AHL affiliate, the Providence Bruins, as early as Sunday (4/13).
The Indiana Ice will be in action tonight as they host the Green Bay Gamblers for game two of the Eastern Conference semifinals from Pan Am Pavilion. The puck is set to drop at 7:05 pm.
Tickets for the Clark Cup playoffs, presented by Ivy Tech, remain the same at $15 for reserved seating and $10 for standing room only and can be purchased on Ticketmaster or through the Indiana Ice office at (317) 925-4423.
