Indianapolis Ice News Release
Cranbrook, BC â Jeff Chynoweth, General Manager of the Kootenay ICE Hockey Club, announced today that 18-year-old Defenseman Alex Staudt has left the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. Staudt will join the team over the weekend and will begin practicing with the team on Monday.
"Alex has been attending the University of Alaska-Fairbanks since the fall of 2002 on a full scholarship. We originally drafted Alex in the ninth round (151st overall) of the 1999 WHL Bantam Draft and although Alex opted to play in both the BCHL and later the NCAA, we have kept him on our 50 player protected list. Alex feels the best way to further develop himself as a player is to play in the Western Hockey League and he can fulfill both his hockey and educational goals as a member of the Kootenay ICE," commented Chynoweth.
