(Norwich, Conn.) -- After being hit by a pitch a franchise-tying three times, shortstop Tim Hutting drove in the tying and go-ahead runs in a three-run bottom of the 8th inning, as the Norwich Navigators twice came from behind and held on to defeat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 7-6, at Dodd Stadium this afternoon.

The Navigators took a 4-2 lead into the top of the 8th inning, but a single and a walk with two outs drove Scott Chiasson from the game in favor of Alfredo Simon. Simon promptly gave up a three-run homer to Chip Cannon to put the Fisher Cats up 5-4. But Norwich stormed back in the bottom half of the inning against tough righthander Ryan Houston. Singles by Randy Walter and Brad Vericker and a sacrifice bunt by Cordido put men on second and third with one out for Hutting who had been hit by a pitch by starter Vince Perkins in all three of his previous plate appearances.

Hutting singled to center knocking in both runs, and he later scored on a two-out RBI single by A.J. LaBarbera which made it 7-5. After striking out the first two men in the 9th, Simon gave up three straight singles, which produced a run, but he got Rob Cosby to ground out to third with the tying and go-ahead runners on base to end it. Simon (3-8) picked up the win despite the blown save and Houston (3-2) took the loss. Brad Vericker and A.J. LaBarbera had three hits apiece for the Navigators and Tyler Von Schell and Randy Walter chipped in with two each.

The Navigators will play the season finale tomorrow afternoon against New Hampshire. With a win tomorrow, the Navigators would finish the season at an even 71-71, the first time the team would be at .500 since Opening Day when they were 0-0. Lefty Brian Mazone (10-8) will take the mound for Norwich and he will be opposed by New Hampshire righty Ismael Ramirez (8-13). First pitch is scheduled for 2:05pm.
