Hutting Sac Fly Gives Suns The Win

July 18, 2004 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Hagerstown Suns News Release

The Suns scratched together a ninth inning victory over Lakewood on Sunday splitting the series and ending a five game homestand. With the score tied 4-4 and one away in the ninth, Jon Coutlangus reached first on a bunt single. Coutlangus then motored over to third base on an errant pick-off attempt by relief pitcher Cory Schultz. The costly error led to Tim Hutting's sacrifice fly to deep right field, allowing Coutlangus to score the wining run.

Travis Nesmith threw five quality innings on seven hits and two runs in the no decision. Brian Wilson (1-3) picked it up from there earning his first win with four innings of relief. For the past three games the Suns have gotten at least five solid innings from the starting pitching, translating into a couple of wins.

Hagerstown pounded out eleven hits, eight off the starter Erick Arteaga. Pat Dobson Travis Ishikawa Jason Columbus all had two hits apiece as the Suns improved to 8-14 on the second half. Columbus smacked a solo shot in the fifth, his eighth homer of the season.

Tomorrow Hagerstown travels to Delmarva to take on the Shorebirds for a three game series. Juan Serrato will take the mound for Hagerstown.
