Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
Kannapolis, NC- David Cook's three-run homer with one out in the bottom of the tenth inning lifted the Intimidators (14-9, 48-44) over the Legends 6-3 Sunday evening at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium in Kannapolis.
Leo Daigle led off the tenth inning with a single of Legends reliever Tony Adler (0-1) and was lifted for pinch-runner Cory Haggerty. Micah Schnurstein singled to left moving Haggerty to second. Brandon Bounds hit a ground ball to second forcing out Schnurstein but the throw to first was late making Bounds safe and advancing Haggerty to third before Cook's walk off winner.
It is the second, walk off home run in the team's four seasons. Casey Rogowski hit a solo shot in the bottom of the ninth inning off Lexington's Mike Nannini on July 14, 2001 in the Intimidators 2-1 win.
Kannapolis wasted little time scoring the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning. Antoin Gray led off with a double and scored on an RBI single by Daigle.
In the fifth inning, Daigle crushed a solo shot off reliever Jonathan Beltre, his 10th home run of the season, extending the lead, 2-0. Brandon Bounds added a leadoff homer in the sixth putting the Intimidators ahead, 3-0.
Intimidators pitching held the Legends scoreless through the first seven innings. Starter Brian Miller tossed five scoreless innings allowing two hits while striking out four. Fraser Dizard chipped in with a shutout inning in the sixth. Adam Larson was charged with three runs despite leaving the game scoreless with the bases loaded in the eighth inning.
The Legends (12-11, 49-43) rallied in the inning for three runs. Orionny Lopez, in relief of Larson, walked in a run with the bases loaded and surrendered a two-run single to tie the game, 3-3, in the top of the eighth.
Fabio Castro (2-0) earned the win tossing a scoreless inning in the top of the tenth inning retiring all three batters faced with one strikeout.
The two teams meet again Monday night for the third of five games in the series. First pitch is set at 7:05pm. For more information, or to order tickets contact the Intimidators at 704-932-3267.
