Grand Rapids Drive News Release
SOUTHAVEN - Dusty Hannah scored 25 points and Ivan Rabb recorded 21 points with 11 rebounds and seven assists as the Memphis Hustle (6-6) defeated the Grand Rapids Drive (5-7) at home Tuesday night by a 109-93 final score.
In addition to Hannah and Rabb, DJ Stephens scored 12 points for the Hustle and Grizzlies assignee Jevon Carter finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists, also leading all players with a plus-20 plus-minus. The Hustle turned in a stellar defensive performance, holding their opponent to under 100 points for the fourth time this season. The Drive's offense has been in a bit of a funk, as they failed to reach 100 points for the fourth consecutive game, all losses.
Zach Lofton was the biggest bright spot for the Drive offensively, just missing his season high by scoring 25 points with five rebounds and a team-high five assists, also finishing as the only Grand Rapids player with a positive plus-minus. Michael Bethea Jr. had a season-high 20 points, going 5-of-11 on three-pointers. Keenan Evans also scored 13 points for the visitors, Scottie Lindsey had 12 points, and Johnny Hamilton just missed another double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.
The Drive came into the game shorthanded with three players sitting out due to injuries and no NBA assignees, and outside of their five players in double figures the rest of the team scored just 12 points. The Hustle used the depth to their advantage, pulling away in the second and fourth quarters and getting 12 players into the game.
Memphis also held advantages in most statistical categories. They bettered the Drive's shooting percentages both from the floor and from deep, recorded 52 rebounds to the Drive's 36, and doubled Grand Rapids' total of 12 assists. The Drive did an excellent job not fouling all night with their shorthanded roster, as they recorded only nine fouls and the Hustle attempted just six free throws (making them all). But the
Hustle still controlled the game following the first quarter.
Snapping a two-game skid with the win over the Drive, the Hustle will look for another home win against the Iowa Wolves on Friday night. The Drive continue their road trip also on Friday night, taking on the Lakeland Magic for the third time this season.
